Universal Levels Half of The Lost Continent, Preserving the Mystic Fountain's Face
The last stretch of the original Lost Continent at Universal's Islands of Adventure is disappearing fast. New aerial photos published July 2 show that roughly half of The Lost Continent has now been demolished, with the old Sindbad theater completely gone and Poseidon's giant trident toppled and smashed. In a nice touch for longtime fans, Universal quietly preserved one beloved piece before the crews finished the job.

What is gone
According to a July 2 update from Orlando ParkStop, crews have leveled about half the land in the roughly three months since construction walls went up. The entire theater that once housed The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad stunt show is gone, along with the arch that framed the Sindbad area, the All Hallows Eve retail shop, Doc Sugrue's Desert Kebab House, and a back corner tower near Hogsmeade. Demolition has crossed to the Poseidon side, where the towering trident statue has been knocked down, leaving little more than the feet and head of the Poseidon figure standing.
The Mystic Fountain lives on, sort of
Here is the part that will make old-school fans smile. The carved stone face of the Mystic Fountain, the land's last operating attraction and an opening day fixture famous for wisecracking with (and soaking) guests, was carefully removed and saved before demolition. ParkStop notes that "while the fountain itself was, for the most part, demolished, it's interesting to note that a key element was preserved," and reports the face could end up in a museum display or be transplanted onto a new fountain elsewhere on property. The Mystic Fountain gave its final performance in mid May 2026, closing out 27 years of interactive fun.

What comes next
That part is still officially a mystery. Every permit filed so far covers only demolition and land clearing, with expirations running from October 2026 into February 2027, under the internal codename "Project 555." Universal's only public comment, as reported by Attractions Magazine, is that "in the coming months, there will be construction activity in Lost Continent as part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments." The most persistent fan rumor is a Pokémon themed land, but Universal has not confirmed any theme, so treat that as speculation for now.
Still standing, for now: Mythos Restaurant, the acclaimed sit down spot overlooking the lagoon, is confirmed to stay open through the rest of 2026 before closing permanently in 2027. Poseidon's Fury, shuttered since 2023, is also still partly up but slated for demolition.Sources
