The Diamond Horseshoe Pop-Up Opens October 4, and Its Full Menu Has Six Small Plates and No Entrees

Disney has finally put a date on The Diamond Horseshoe pop-up. The limited time food and drink takeover of the Liberty Square music hall at Magic Kingdom opens Sunday, October 4, with reservations opening Tuesday, September 29, and Disney published what it calls the full menu on the Disney Parks Blog Monday.

The menu is where the story is. As Disney published it, the pop-up serves six small plates, four non alcoholic specialty drinks, five cocktails plus one seasonal cocktail, three wines and three draft beers. There is no entree section, no dessert section, and not one price.

That is a complete turn for a room that spent years serving an all you care to enjoy family style meal: a salad course, then a platter of turkey, pot roast and pork with sides, finished with Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake. Disney said in August that those family style items stay next door at Liberty Tree Tavern, and the new menu confirms none of them came back with the room.

The catch Disney put in a footnote

At the very bottom of its post, under the photos and the drink list, Disney added a parenthetical: the pop-up will not be available during Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, but will be available during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

Set that against Disney's own party calendar and the opening date lands awkwardly. October 4 is itself a Not-So-Scary night. Disney lists 16 October party dates: October 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29 and 31. The pop-up opens on the third of them.

From October 4 through October 31 there are 28 days, and 14 are party nights. Exactly half of the pop-up's first month carries the restriction, opening night included. Party ticket holders can enter Magic Kingdom from 4 p.m. and the party runs 7 p.m. to midnight, so on those 14 dates the evening belongs to the party, not to the saloon.

One thing Disney did not say: whether the venue is dark all day on party dates or simply stops serving when the park turns over. The wording covers only the party itself. Read it as a shortened day rather than a closed one, and treat the exact cutoff as unconfirmed until Disney posts operating hours.

If you are booking: the October dates to work around are October 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29 and 31. November opens clear, and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party nights starting November 8 are explicitly fine.

A five day booking window, not sixty

Walt Disney World takes dining reservations up to 60 days ahead. This one opens September 29 for an October 4 debut, a five day lead. New venues often go on sale close to opening because the inventory is not loaded any earlier, so this is not a policy change, but it is worth knowing if you are building an October trip now: you cannot lock The Diamond Horseshoe in at the same time you book everything else, and you will be chasing it against a fully formed 60 day window for every other Magic Kingdom table.

The full menu Disney published

Small plates. Charcuterie with cured beef, candied bacon, smoked pork, green chile cheese, smoked cheddar and pickles. Glazed Sticky Ribs with cowboy beans and jalapeño crisps. Queso Fundido with Barbecue Burnt Ends and warm tortilla chips. Sweet Golden Corn Fritters with cilantro ranch dressing and red chili honey. Chipotle Chicken Tostada with queso fresco, lime crema and pickled cactus salsa. Mini Hot Dog Platter, wrapped in pastry and served with tortilla chips and a side of queso.

Non alcoholic. Orange Cream Soda (Fanta Orange with vanilla and cream), Caramel Root Beer with Sweet Cream (Barq's flavored with caramel and topped with sweet cream), Enchanting Ember Lemonade (Minute Maid Premium Lemonade, strawberry and hot honey) and Enchanted Grove Lime Splash (Minute Maid Limeade, cucumber and mint).

Cocktails. Whinnyin' Whiskey Lemonade (Jack Daniel's, Aperol, strawberry puree, lemonade, basil), Cactus Rose Margarita (LALO Blanco Tequila, prickly pear, lime, agave), High Plains Huckleberry (44 North Mountain Huckleberry Vodka, crème de cassis, lemon, cranberry), Rattler Rum Punch (Bacardi Superior, orange, pineapple, lime, passion fruit, sweet and spicy rim) and Coal'd Fashioned (Buffalo Trace, Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, cinnamon syrup, orange and Angostura bitters). The seasonal pour is In Holiday Fashion: Buffalo Trace, rosemary syrup, cranberry and cinnamon.

What Disney still has not said

No prices. No operating hours. No end date, only the phrase limited time. And still no name for the pop-up itself, which Disney continues to call The Diamond Horseshoe Pop-Up.

Two details do point past the fall, though neither is a stated end date. The menu carries a seasonal cocktail called In Holiday Fashion, built on rosemary, cranberry and cinnamon, and Disney went out of its way to say the pop-up serves during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, which runs November 8 to December 22. A pop-up closing in October would need neither. Our read is that it runs at least into December, but Disney has not committed to that, and its own caveat applies: all offerings are subject to change and availability.

What we reported in August now checks out

When Disney previewed the pop-up on August 5 with three items and no names, we noted that the drink names were already sitting in the filenames of Disney's own images: Cactus Rose Margarita and Enchanting Ember Lemonade. Both appear on the official menu exactly as filed.

Two smaller things moved. The charcuterie bacon Disney described in August as fancy bacon is now listed as candied bacon. And the chili lime rim we described on the lemonade has quietly dropped out of Disney's written description, though it is still visible on the glass in the new photo.

Twenty five dark days first

Jessie's Roundup, the Toy Story character revue that took the room over the summer as part of Cool Kids' Summer, runs its last show on September 8. The pop-up opens October 4. That leaves 25 days with nothing happening inside The Diamond Horseshoe, which is a reasonable changeover window for a room that has to go from a kids' character show back to a working service kitchen with a full drink list.

The room shares a kitchen with Liberty Tree Tavern next door and has served Liberty Tree dishes for years, so the six small plates are new to the building in a way the family style platters never were.

What it means if you are planning

Treat this as a drinks and snacks stop, not a meal. Six small plates with no entree and no dessert is a bar menu in a dining room, and if you are feeding a family in Liberty Square on a schedule, Liberty Tree Tavern next door is still the room with the platters.

Set a reminder for September 29 if you want an opening week table, because five days of lead time is not much for a Magic Kingdom debut. And check your dates against the Halloween party calendar before you book anything in the first four weeks: half of them come with a restriction Disney has so far explained in a single sentence.
