Magic Kingdom Closes to Regular Guests at 6pm on Halloween Party Nights, and the 8am Opening Is Confirmed Only Through August 21

If you booked a Magic Kingdom day this fall and penciled in a 9am rope drop and a 10pm fireworks finish, go look at the calendar again. Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party started its 2026 season on Friday, August 7, and Disney has rewritten the park's daily hours around it. On party dates through August 21, Magic Kingdom opens at 8am instead of 9am, and on Halloween party dates it closes to regular admission at 6pm.

How a party night actually runs

The full shape of a party date on the dates Disney has already updated, through August 21, per WDW News Today and WDWMagic, which both published the change on August 7:

  • 7:30am, early entry for Disney resort hotel guests
  • 8am, park opens to everyone else
  • 4pm, guests holding a separate party ticket can start entering
  • 6pm, regular admission ends
  • 7pm to midnight, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

That hour between 6pm and 7pm is a changeover. As WDW News Today puts it, "Disney uses that hour to shuffle non-party guests out of Magic Kingdom." The extra morning hour is the trade: a party-night day gives you roughly 10 hours in the park, against about 13 on a typical 9am to 10pm non-party day.

The fireworks and the parade are the real cost

Neither Happily Ever After nor the Disney Starlight parade is performed on party nights. WDWMagic ties that directly to the 6pm cutoff for regular admission.

Party ticket holders are not left without a nighttime show. The party has its own parade, Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade, and WDW News Today reports it runs twice at every party, at 8:15pm and again at 11:15pm. But if the Starlight parade or Happily Ever After is the reason you picked a date, a party night is the wrong date.

Non-party days are not uniform either

Most non-party dates return to a 9am open and an 8:30am early entry for resort guests, and they usually close at 10pm or 11pm depending on the date. A handful open at 8am anyway, lining up with the party dates on either side. WDWMagic flags August 8, 15 and 22, all Saturdays, as examples.

Extended Evening Hours are moving around too. Magic Kingdom usually hosts them for guests at Disney's deluxe resorts, and it still does on some non-party nights this season. On others the hours land at Disney's Hollywood Studios or Disney's Animal Kingdom, so which park hosts them changes as the season goes.

The dates that have not been updated yet

Here is the part worth acting on. The 8am opening currently only runs through August 21. Party dates from August 23 onward are still listed at 9am on the calendar, while the 6pm cutoff is already showing.

Both outlets expect that to change. WDW News Today writes that "we expect the Walt Disney World calendar to be updated again, adding that extra hour to more dates." WDWMagic is blunter about what to do with that: "Don't lock in your plans around a 9am opening for those later dates."

How long this lasts

Longer than Halloween. Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs select nights from August 7 through October 31. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party then runs select nights from November 8 through December 22, and WDWMagic expects that season to bring back the same pattern: earlier openings, earlier closes, and Extended Evening Hours that move between parks. WDWMagic notes that Disney releases hours in stages, so anything scheduled well ahead is still subject to change.

Vekoma Says It Installed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's New Track and Trains, and Ties the Work to the Lowered 38 Inch Height Requirement

Dutch coaster manufacturer Vekoma went public on Thursday with its role in Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's 16 month refurbishment, saying it installed a new track and passenger trains at Magic Kingdom. Disney described the same work in May without naming a manufacturer. Vekoma ties the lowered 38 inch height requirement to the new hardware plus a comprehensive safety review, and closes with an argument for revitalizing old rides instead of replacing them.
