Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Jeff Vahle closed out 36 years at Disney on Friday. He sent a farewell letter to the Central Florida community, posted a career reflection on Instagram, and handed the resort to Joe Schott, who starts next week.
Haunted Mansion Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion is visible again. The scaffolding and most of the scrim were down by Friday morning, capping an exterior project that traces back to a December 2025 permit, and the building underneath has a new roof, ashy black detailing near the chimney tops and a dome finial that has gone from gold or bronze to a green patina. The shrubs and trees cleared to make room for the scaffolding have not been replanted yet.
On Monday, August 10, drivers at Walt Disney World move onto a newly built stretch of Floridian Way, putting all guest traffic into the southbound lanes between the Magic Kingdom parking lot and the Grand Floridian entrance. Two of the project's three roundabouts are already in, and temporary driveways will keep the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian's Island Tower and the wedding pavilion reachable.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Blog Mickey photographed what looks like the first section of a tower crane at the Piston Peak National Park site on July 25, standing just past the new wall that separates Frontierland from the Cars-themed land going in where Rivers of America used to be. Disney still has not given an opening date.
Haunted Mansion After roughly six months behind scaffolding and scrim, Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion is starting to reappear, and it does not look the way it did before the work began. The cupola dome is green, the brick is noticeably darker, and the stone trim has been lightened, undoing the even-toned look the building had settled into by 2011. Disney has said nothing about the work, and one wall near the exit is still visibly half-finished.
Aloha Isle Disney's 2026 foodie guide lists 58 food and drink items across 19 Magic Kingdom locations for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, 17 of them new, including three Haunted Mansion themed items at Sleepy Hollow. Disney did not attach a price to any of them, and the party allergen guide is still listed as coming soon.
