The gift shop next to the Haunted Mansion entrance is not closed for Piston Peak construction. It is gone, and the Mike Fink Keel Boats landing beside it came down back in May. Construction walls sealed the last open stretch of boardwalk this week, and Disney has started papering them with vintage style Frontierland ads referencing Doctor Terminus, Slue-Foot Sue and the Hundred Acre Wood.

Disney Named Monstropolis' Main Street Dark Avenue, and Imagineers Say Piston Peak Buildings Were Shortened After a Balloon Test Came Back Too High

Walt Disney Imagineering put out a new We Call It Imagineering episode on Friday, a 24-minute architecture tour that stops in on four Walt Disney World projects. The headline is a name nobody had heard before: Dark Avenue, the main street running through Monstropolis to the Monsters, Inc. factory that will house the suspended door coaster. The same episode explains what balloons like the one we wrote about on August 12 are for. Imagineers say the first Piston Peak sightline test showed some elevations were a little too high, and structures were shortened before a second test came back right on the money.

Walt Disney Imagineering gave D23 the first full-scale look at Magic Kingdom's Cars land ride vehicle: a foam model of the off-road rally race vehicle, with published dimensions and a note that this is the last step before production. Imagineering's D23 presentation also revealed the Goat-Carts, Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore, and an overhead look at the layout for Miss Fritter's attraction.
