Disney Names Its New Adventureland Pirate Offering Captain Jack's Buccaneer Bash, and It Debuts Tonight at Not-So-Scary

Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party starts its 2026 season tonight, and the mystery pirate offering Disney dangled in June has finally been named. It is Captain Jack's Buccaneer Bash, and it takes over Adventureland from the moment the party opens.

When Disney first teased the offering on June 27, the listing amounted to a single sentence about Jack Sparrow dropping anchor in Adventureland. There was no name, no format, no stage, and no indication of how often it would run. All four of those gaps closed this week.

What Disney is actually promising

The official description frames the whole thing as a recruitment drive. In Disney's words, guests can "Take part in pirate tricks and treats when Captain Jack Sparrow comes to port for a Halloween adventure!" The listing goes on to explain that "Captain Jack Sparrow has come to recruit new crew members and teach them how to be pirates," a quest that Disney says involves a salty pirate band, daring jugglers and a run of sailor superstitions.

The headline details:

  • Name: Captain Jack's Buccaneer Bash.
  • Where: the Adventureland stage across from Pirates of the Caribbean, weather permitting.
  • When: the My Disney Experience app lists it as continuous from 7 p.m. to midnight, though performers will take breaks and are not expected to be out for the full five hours.
  • Format: a pirate band, jugglers, and sailor superstition bits, with Jack Sparrow leading the recruiting.
  • Debut: tonight, Friday August 7, the first night of the 2026 party season.

That 7 p.m. to midnight window is the genuinely interesting operational change. Blog Mickey points out that the Rusty Cutlass Pirate Band, the act that previously held down this corner of the park, had proper showtimes listed in the app. A five-hour block with no set times reads as something closer to roaming, ongoing atmosphere than a stage show you queue up for, and Blog Mickey's reading is that guests will pick up pirate customs alongside the character rather than sit and watch.

So what happened to Rusty Cutlass?

This is the thread nobody has tied off, and it is worth being precise about it. Disney's new description does not name Rusty Cutlass anywhere. Both WDW News Today and Blog Mickey have floated the same theory, that the "salty pirate band" in the copy is Rusty Cutlass, but both are explicitly guessing: WDW News Today prefaces it with "Presumably," and Blog Mickey says only that it is possible they could appear. Blog Mickey has previously noted that Rusty Cutlass is a third-party act, so confirmation of their return may come later than news about Disney's in-house entertainment.

The other possibility is that this is a genuine replacement and a longtime party fixture has quietly played its last set. Tonight settles it either way.

A busier Adventureland

What has changed structurally is Jack Sparrow's role. In past years he appeared at the party for a standard meet and greet while the band handled the entertainment. Buccaneer Bash puts him at the center of the Adventureland offering itself, which is a meaningful upgrade for a character who has spent recent Halloween seasons in a photo line. Neither outlet has said whether the separate meet and greet continues alongside it.

Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs select nights at Magic Kingdom from August 7 through October 31, 2026.
