Hogwarts Always Projection Show Returns to Hogwarts Castle Saturday: 7-Minute Loop Every 20 Minutes

The Hogwarts Castle refresh is finally paying off. After the scrim came down on May 12 (we covered that), the projection-mapping show that the castle was rehabbed to host returns this Saturday. Hogwarts Always debuts again at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Hogsmeade, on Saturday May 30, 2026, running every 20 minutes from dusk through park close. It's a roughly 7-minute show projected directly onto Hogwarts Castle, and each performance crowns a different one of the four houses as the House Cup winner.

The headlines:

  • Debut: Saturday May 30, 2026, three days from today.
  • Schedule: every 20 minutes from dusk through park close.
  • Length: approximately 7 minutes.
  • Variable ending: each performance crowns one of the four houses (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff) as House Cup winner.
  • Pyrotechnic finale only: the show is otherwise pure projection mapping, with a brief fireworks element at the end.
  • Designated viewing area is set up directly in front of Hogwarts Castle in Hogsmeade.

What the show actually is

Hogwarts Always tells the story of a complete Hogwarts school year. The 7-minute show opens with the Sorting Hat sorting students into houses, walks through the magical academic year (with Quidditch, the Forbidden Forest, and the Marauder's Map projected across the castle), and lands on a pyrotechnic finale where one of the four houses is crowned the year's House Cup champion. Because the winning house rotates, repeat viewings hit differently each time.

The show originally debuted in June 2024, then went on hiatus while construction work tied to the Mystic Fountain closure and the broader Lost Continent dismantling rolled through the surrounding land. With the castle scrim now down and the construction work moving away from the castle sightlines, the show is finally back in its intended environment.

The production numbers

Per Universal's official Discover Universal blog:

  • A creative team of roughly 60 people built the show.
  • Animators spent 8 to 10 months turning storyboards into final imagery.
  • Rehearsals ran from midnight to 5 a.m. for 4 to 5 months before the original 2024 debut.

Mike Aiello, Senior Director of Entertainment and Creative Development at Universal Orlando Resort, described the projection show approach to the Discover Universal blog as a creative dream and emphasized the importance of music to the storytelling, framing music and visuals as two legs that have to walk together for the show to land.

Where it fits in Universal's summer

Hogwarts Always is part of Universal's limited-time summer 2026 experiences running from May 23 through August 10. The rest of the slate:

  • Blockbuster Summer kicked off Saturday May 23 across the resort.
  • Spielberg Summer Blockbusters exhibit at Universal Studios Florida is running.
  • JAWS Amity overlay at USF is running, themed bites, drinks, photo ops, and merchandise.
  • Mega Movie Parade now debuts Friday June 5 at 6 p.m. after the silent two-week delay (we covered that yesterday).
  • Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure loses Universal Express access on Wednesday July 1 (we covered that yesterday).

Quick planner notes

  • Best viewing spot: the designated viewing area directly in front of Hogwarts Castle in Hogsmeade. Plan to be in position about 30 to 45 minutes before sunset on the first weekend; opening-night crowds will be heavy.
  • Repeat viewing pays off. Because the House Cup winner rotates, two consecutive performances can deliver materially different endings. A 20-minute interval between shows makes that easy to stack.
  • Combine with Pteranodon Flyers and Captain Cacao. Pteranodon Flyers reopened Friday May 22 at Islands of Adventure (we covered the testing on May 13). Captain Cacao's costumed meet-and-greet has been running at Celestial Park inside Epic Universe since May 22 (we covered that on May 18). All three are within the same opening-week window.
  • Hogsmeade gets crowded after dark, especially during projection-show runs. If you're visiting on Memorial Day weekend or the following weekends, expect dinner reservations at the Wizarding World restaurants to compete for time slots.
  • Butterbeer Season ends Sunday May 31, so the opening weekend of Hogwarts Always is also the last weekend to grab the seasonal butterbeer items.
