Universal Quietly Delays Mega Movie Parade by Two Weeks to June 5

If you flew to Orlando for Memorial Day weekend to catch the Mega Movie Parade's return at Universal Studios Florida, you came home empty-handed. Universal quietly pushed the parade's return from Saturday May 23 to Friday June 5, a roughly two-week delay, with no formal announcement. The new debut date only appeared as a silent update to Universal's online calendar, which is where the fan press caught it.

The headlines:

  • Original return date: Saturday, May 23, 2026, the kickoff day of Blockbuster Summer.
  • New first performance: Friday, June 5, 2026, at 6 p.m. Subsequent summer performances will mostly run at 7 p.m.
  • Confirmed run through August 23, 2026, which is shorter than the 2024-25 run that extended into November on select dates.
  • No official statement from Universal. Multiple outlets confirm the delay was "not formally announced by Universal and instead quietly appeared through updates to the online calendar."
  • The rest of Blockbuster Summer launched on schedule May 23, including the Spielberg Summer Blockbusters exhibit at Universal Studios Florida and the JAWS Amity overlay.

What guests are missing

The Mega Movie Parade is the centerpiece of Universal's summer programming. Per WDWNT's reporting, the parade features 13 floats and nearly 100 performers, with floats themed to JAWS, Ghostbusters (Ecto-1 and Stay Puft), Jurassic World, E.T., Back to the Future, Minions, Sing, Trolls, and Kung Fu Panda. It runs daily during the summer window and is one of the most photographable nighttime parade experiences in Orlando.

For Memorial Day weekend guests, the parade was the marquee reason to choose Universal over Disney's May 26 multi-opening sweep. Showing up to find no parade and no formal announcement is the kind of guest experience problem that compounds. WDW News Today labeled the situation "problematic" in its headline, citing the silent timing.

Why this is "problematic" in WDWNT's framing

WDWNT's headline characterizes the Mega Movie Parade as "problematic" because this isn't the first time the parade has had reliability issues. The 2024-25 inaugural run had multiple unannounced cancellations and shortened performance windows, and the delayed 2026 return continues that pattern. WDWNT's framing: a parade that's supposed to anchor Universal's summer programming can't consistently anchor.

What is still on for Blockbuster Summer

  • Spielberg Summer Blockbusters exhibit at Universal Studios Florida: opened May 23 as planned. The exhibit anchors the summer programming and runs through August 10.
  • JAWS Amity overlay at USF: opened May 23 as planned, themed bites, drinks, photo ops, and merchandise.
  • Captain Cacao meet-and-greet at Celestial Park inside Epic Universe: debuted Friday May 22 as planned for Epic's one-year anniversary (we covered the debut announcement on May 18).
  • Hogwarts Always projection show returns nightly at Hogwarts Castle on Saturday May 30 (we covered the scrim coming down on May 12).
  • Mega Movie Parade: debuts Friday June 5 at 6 p.m., with subsequent summer performances mostly at 7 p.m. through August 23.

What else is also dark this week

  • Me Ship, The Olive in Toon Lagoon closed today (Tuesday May 26) for a refurbishment through June 9.
  • Po's Kung Fu Training Camp and Po Live! in DreamWorks Land remain closed (we covered the May 18 closure), scheduled to reopen July 4.
  • Universal's Horror Make-Up Show remains closed for "reimagining" with a Winter 2026 return.
  • Butterbeer Season at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter wraps Sunday May 31. This is the final week to catch the seasonal items.

Quick planner notes

  • If you're visiting Universal between now and June 4: No Mega Movie Parade. Plan around the Spielberg exhibit, the Amity overlay, Captain Cacao at Celestial Park, and Hogwarts Always from May 30 onward.
  • If you're visiting June 5 or after: The parade is on. June 5 debut is at 6 p.m.; subsequent summer performances are mostly at 7 p.m. through August 23.
  • For Memorial Day refunds or compensation: Universal has not publicly offered any. If you're an Annual Passholder who built a trip around the May 23 launch, no concrete remediation has been announced.
  • Today (Tuesday) is a Me Ship closure day at IOA. Plan accordingly for Toon Lagoon visits through June 9.
