The Horror Make-Up Show is coming back with a new partner, horror studio Blumhouse. Universal Orlando announced on Friday evening, October 9, that the Universal Studios Florida show will return as Universal Horror Make-Up Show featuring Blumhouse.

The announcement came from Universal Orlando's official X account, and it was short. The live show will "discover how Hollywood's top special effects artists have terrified moviegoers for over 100 years," running "from Universal's classic monsters to the modern horrors of Blumhouse." The post ended with "Details coming soon."

Classic monsters, meet the Blumhouse crowd

Attractions Magazine points to Blumhouse horror series such as Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge, M3GAN and Five Nights at Freddy's, along with films like Get Out, The Black Phone and the 2018 Halloween. Universal has not said whether any of those titles will be part of the show.

For reference, WDW News Today reports that the newest clips in the previous version came from 2017's The Mummy.

Blumhouse was already a guess back in May. When we covered the old show's final night, WDW News Today had floated Blumhouse properties among the possible names for the reimagining, but nothing was confirmed. Now it is in the title.

Michael Aiello, whom Attractions Magazine describes as a longtime creative leader at Universal Orlando, followed up on X after the announcement. By the magazine's account, he said many elements fans enjoyed in the original will carry over, along with new surprises and a full visual redo: "An entire visual reimagining from floor to ceiling!" The magazine also says he called the new version a salute to a century of Universal horror, made together with Blumhouse, and that it keeps the show's blend of scares and laughs.

Where and how it works

The show's home is the Pantages Theater, in the Hollywood area of Universal Studios Florida. WDW News Today describes the version that closed as an audience participation show: guests walked through a lobby full of props, then entered a "make-up studio" where two hosts demonstrated effects and make-up tricks from Universal's horror movies.

When does it open?

Universal has not given an opening date. When a guest asked on X, Universal Orlando replied, "Stay tuned for more information," Attractions Magazine reports.

The last official timing came in May. The previous version closed May 12, 2026, after its closure was pushed back from January, and Universal said then that the reimagined show would open in Winter 2026, with "classic and modern horror properties along with shockingly fun surprises," according to WDW News Today.

There is some park history riding on this one, too. When we reported that Animal Actors On Location! closes November 2, WDW News Today named the Horror Make-Up Show and E.T. Adventure as the park's two remaining opening-day survivors after it goes.

So which Blumhouse monster do you most want to see get the make-up treatment on that stage?
