Universal Mardi Gras Runs February 6 to March 27 in 2027, a 50 Day Season That Is Exactly One Week Shorter Than This Year

Universal has put the 2027 dates for Universal Mardi Gras: International Flavors of Carnaval on its website. The event returns to Universal Studios Florida on February 6 and runs through March 27, 2027.

Count the days and the story is in the arithmetic. That is 50 calendar days. This year's run, February 7 to April 4, was 57. The 2027 season is exactly one week shorter.

Where the week went

It lines up with Easter. Easter Sunday falls on March 28 in 2027, and Mardi Gras now ends the day before it, on Saturday March 27. That is the same pattern Universal followed this year, when the event wrapped on April 4 and Easter landed on April 5. Easter is simply a week and a bit earlier in 2027, and so is the end of the event.

Attractions Magazine, which led its report with the shrinking calendar, notes that "Past events have not always followed that pattern." Its own table puts 2024 at 65 days, when the celebration carried on for a week after Easter Sunday, and 2025 at 58 days.

Before anyone calls the 50 day run unprecedented, it is not. Attractions points out that the 2017 event also ran 50 consecutive days, that 2018 expanded to 64, and that 2019 came in at 55.

The front end barely moved at all. The event opens Saturday February 6, one day earlier on the calendar than this year's February 7 start, and three days before actual Fat Tuesday, which is February 9 in 2027.

No press release, just dates on the website

There is no press release. Universal's media site has published nothing since September 16, when it announced that Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift had opened in Hollywood. The official Discover Universal blog has not mentioned the 2027 dates either. Its Mardi Gras guide, published back in January, still tells readers that "This year, Universal Mardi Gras will run from February 7 to April 4."

Compare that with last time. The 2026 dates arrived inside a destination wide press release on January 8, 2026, the one that read "Universal Mardi Gras: International Flavors of Carnaval returns February 7- April 4 with a vibrant celebration featuring dazzling floats with tons of colorful beads, live performances on select nights from some of the biggest names in music, and a diverse array of international cuisine along with mouthwatering dishes inspired by New Orleans' iconic flavors."

This time the dates simply appeared on the website, a little over four months before the event opens, and with far more lead time than the January release that carried this year's dates.

What is not out yet

Almost everything except the dates. The 2027 concert lineup, the parade details and the food menus have not been published. Attractions Magazine lists all of it as still to come, and Inside Universal says more details will be revealed soon.

What we do know is the shape of it, because the shape does not change much year to year. Inside Universal reports the event runs daily across those 50 days, and it stays included with regular Universal Studios Florida admission rather than becoming a separate ticket.

WDW News Today quotes Universal's description of the event as: "It's about time you had some Mardi Gras fun. Grab beads, sing along to live concerts, eat your way across the globe, and make the most of all the festivities with a stay at one of our Universal Orlando hotels."

The catch for passholders

Mardi Gras has long been a strong argument for an annual pass. Universal's own guide says the event is included with park admission or an Annual Pass at no extra cost, though WDW News Today notes the international food is still bought separately. Fifty days is still a long season. It is just seven fewer chances to use it.

The US Patent and Trademark Office published Disney Enterprises' patent application US 2026/0283118 A1 on September 24. It describes cameras inside an animal enclosure, on tour vehicles and boats and on drones, feeding a machine learning model that scores what it sees and pushes an alert to phones, in-vehicle screens and RFID wristbands. One passage says a vehicle or a boat can change its planned course once the alert arrives.
