Animal Actors on Location! Takes Its Final Bow, and Everyone in the Crowd Who Ever Worked the Show Was Called to the Stage

The final curtain call at Animal Actors on Location! belonged to the people who had worked there. When the last show wrapped on Monday, November 2, the cast called up anyone in the crowd who had ever worked the show to join them for one last bow and a group photo, WDW News Today reports.

A large group of people stands in a long line across the green stage floor of the Animal Actors theater, in front of the rock temple set, waterfall and stone face, with the Animal Actors on Location screen above them and audience members in the foreground holding up phones.

That was the end of a 36-year run. The show closed permanently on the date Universal set in September.

How the last day went

According to WDW News Today, the last show ever started at 5pm, and guests needed a wristband to get in. Rainy weather did not keep people away.

The animals still got their turn first. WDW News Today describes a scarlet macaw clearing the stage and dropping trash in a recycling bin, an umbrella cockatoo, trained hawks and pigeons landing on a volunteer's head, an otter dropping a water bottle into a bin, and a dog towing the bin away. The outlet also lists a pig, a porcupine and a skunk among the cast.

Universal's own sign-off came on X: "That's a wrap! 🎬🐾 Thank you for 36 years of pawsome memories, laughs, and doggie kisses in Animal Actors on Location!"

Three names, one stage

The show opened with the park on June 7, 1990, as Animal Actors Stage. It became Animal Planet Live in 2001 and took its current name in 2006.

With it gone, WDW News Today counts just two opening-day attractions left at Universal Studios Florida: E.T. Adventure and Universal Orlando's Horror Make-Up Show. The Make-Up Show has been closed since May for its Blumhouse reimagining and has no firm reopening date (WDW News Today reported in May that Universal was aiming for Winter 2026), so for now E.T. Adventure is the only one of the three you can actually experience.

What comes next

Universal still has not said. On the replacement, its September statement said only that the show was "making way for a future experience," and WDW News Today reports that Universal plans to say more about what happens to the space later.

So, what was your favorite bit: the recycling birds, the otter, or the volunteer in the director's chair? And what would you put on that stage next?
