SeaWorld Orlando's biggest 2026 attraction is officially open to all guests. Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice grand-opened yesterday afternoon (Monday May 25, 2026, at 2 p.m.) after a 45-day conversion from the original Expedition Odyssey. The Mack Airific flying-theater ride vehicle and the post-show animal habitat both stay, but the entry experience, pre-show, and high-definition film are all new.

The headlines:

  • Grand opening to all guests: Monday, May 25, 2026, at 2 p.m. We covered the approaching reopen on May 18.
  • Pass-member preview tiers: Platinum Saturday May 23 (3 p.m. to close), Platinum + Gold Sunday May 24 (10 a.m. to close), all Pass Members Monday May 25 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).
  • Ride system: Mack Rides Airific flying theater, 30-seat vehicle on two levels (same system that opened as Expedition Odyssey in May 2025 replacing Wild Arctic). Minimum height 39 inches.
  • Closure-to-grand-opening: 45 days, from the original Expedition Odyssey's last day of operation on Friday April 10, 2026 to the May 25 reopen.
  • The post-show animal habitat stays. Guests still exit into the beluga whales, walruses, and penguins (including Uki, the orphaned Pacific walrus calf SeaWorld rescued).

What is actually new

Per the Main Street Magic and Attractions Magazine media-preview reviews, the Fire & Ice refresh adds:

  • A new entry experience with a refurbished hangar.
  • A themed Arctic-research pre-show branded as "AERIS, Arctic Environmental Research & Integrated Sciences."
  • New high-definition media filmed largely in Iceland, with a prototype drone-craft narrative woven through.
  • A new story-driven ride profile that pushes harder on immersion than the original Expedition Odyssey film did.

Justin Newton, Senior Vice President of Project Delivery for United Parks & Resorts, framed the goal: "Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice is one of the most ambitious and immersive attractions we have ever created." Newton's storytelling goal: "People should go out of here saying, 'Where was that? I want to go there.'"

What stays the same

  • The Mack Airific flying-theater vehicle and ride system. Same suspended-bench seating, same 30-seat two-level layout, same approximately 5-minute ride time as Expedition Odyssey.
  • The post-show Wild Arctic habitat. Beluga whales, walruses, and penguins still anchor the exit pathway. Uki, the orphaned Pacific walrus calf SeaWorld rescued, is still part of the habitat lineup.
  • The 39-inch height requirement and Family Thrill classification.

How it fits with the rest of summer

Fire & Ice is the headline 2026 attraction reopening, but it's not running alone. The full SeaWorld pipeline:

  • Friday June 5 - Saturday August 8: Discovery Cove's Paradise Nights returns for the first time in eight years, with a four-act dinner show themed around Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. Select Friday and Saturday nights. Sloth encounter add-on capped at 10 guests per night.
  • Friday June 12 - Monday September 7: Electric Ocean returns at SeaWorld Orlando with Hydro Surge cirque at Nautilus Theater, Club SeaGlow DJ party at Bayside Stadium, three nighttime animal presentations (Shamu Celebration: Light Up the Night, Sea Lions Tonite, Dolphins: Touch the Sky), the drone-into-Ignite handoff, and the Ignite fireworks finale.
  • Now operating: Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice.

What it means for trip planners

Three takeaways:

  • The summer attraction stack is now complete. Fire & Ice on top of Electric Ocean (from June 12) gives SeaWorld a fresh daytime headliner and a strong nighttime evening program.
  • Wait times this week could spike as Memorial Day crowds discover the new ride. Plan rope drop or a late-evening visit.
  • For families: the 39-inch height requirement keeps Fire & Ice accessible to most kids tall enough for SeaWorld's family-level rides (well below Manta's 54-inch and Kraken's 54-inch coaster thresholds).

Quick planner notes

  • Fire & Ice is now operating during regular park hours. Watch the SeaWorld app for posted wait times.
  • Stack with the Memorial Day post-holiday window. SeaWorld is typically less crowded than Universal or Disney on the days immediately following a major holiday.
  • The Wild Arctic post-show is still there. Even guests who don't ride can still see the beluga whales, walruses, and penguins by entering the exit-side animal habitat (often free-flow without standing in a queue).
  • Pass Members: the $10 SeaWorld Bucks promotion wrapped May 21. The Pass Member Picnic runs Saturday May 30 and Sunday May 31.
