Port Orleans Riverside's Lobby Is Partly Behind Black Curtains, With Its Restrooms Closed and Mailbox Moved

Checking in at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside this week? Much of the registration area now sits behind a long wall of black curtains, and you will have to walk to the far end of the room to find the part that is still open.

A section of the resort's main lobby is closed for refurbishment, WDW News Today reported on Saturday, October 24, with photos taken on Wednesday, October 21. The curtains block much of the check-in and guest services area, which sits on the right as you come into the main building. According to WDW News Today, "all amenities remain available."

A dark green Registration Guest Services sign with gold lettering hangs above a long row of black curtains in a cream-colored lobby with white columns, while a Pardon Our Pixie Dust easel sign stands in the foreground and a few guests with luggage gather in a seating area at left

What has moved

  • Check-in and guest services: still open, at the far end of the room.
  • Lobby restrooms: closed. A sign directs guests to the River Roost restrooms instead.
  • Guest mailbox: relocated to Fulton's General Store, the resort gift shop.
  • Seating: still available in the parts of the lobby that remain open.

A peek over the curtains

The curtains do not reach the lobby's tall ceiling, so WDW News Today could see construction equipment behind them, including a work platform.

There are signs of a paint job, too. Inside the closed zone, two of the columns now show yellow paint around their gold trim, and blue painter's tape edges the gold on the columns at the back of the room. The back wall has been painted gray, which WDW News Today suggests is "possibly a primer and not a new color." Toward the left side, the wall still shows its original pale yellow, topped by a green stripe.

The white molding and golden wall decorations have not been painted, and the chandeliers and punkah-style ceiling fans are still working.

A crystal chandelier hangs above the black curtain line in front of a white wall frieze lettered Riverside, French Quarter and Gretna, with gold-striped columns wrapped in blue painter's tape below and a yellow lift and red ladder poking above the curtains at right

How long will it last?

WDW News Today did not give an end date for the lobby work specifically. It does note that the resort's page on Disney's website still gives "mid-2027" as the end of its guest room and public area refurbishment.

Staying at Riverside soon? Budget an extra minute to find check-in, and an extra few to find a restroom.
