Sephora and The LEGO Store at Disney Springs Stop Taking Disney Gift Cards, and Room Charge Is Out Too

Back in August, the good news for anyone carrying a stack of discounted Disney Gift Cards was that Sephora at Disney Springs still took them. That is no longer true.

WDW News Today reported on October 16 that "Sephora has also stopped accepting Disney Gift Cards, redemption cards, or room charges." Sephora joins Zara and Vera Bradley, the two stores Guest Relations named in August (along with "more stores" it did not name), and The LEGO Store is now on the record too.

The LEGO Store spells it out

The LEGO Store is not leaving guests to find out at the register. WDW News Today says the store has signs up near checkout. The one in the photo above reads "This location does not accept Disney Gift Cards, Disney Rewards Redemption Cards, or Disney Resort Room Charges."

That wording matters, because it covers more than gift cards. Our August report was about gift cards alone. The latest report covers three Disney forms of payment: gift cards, Disney Rewards redemption cards and resort room charge. If you were planning to charge a LEGO set to your hotel room, plan on another way to pay.

The newest store starts without them

Vuori, the activewear store that opened at Disney Springs on October 16, will not accept these payments either, according to WDW News Today. When the outlet spoke to Guest Relations in August, it was told the change came down to third-party contracts changing, and WDW News Today now says that, most likely, "any stores that open from now on will not take the Disney forms of payment." That is the outlet's own read, not a Disney announcement.

Where your gift cards still work

  • Disney-owned stores: WDW News Today says Disney Gift Cards "continue to be accepted at all Disney-owned and operated locations, including Disney Stores and World of Disney."
  • Disney Springs restaurants: WDW News Today says that, so far, dining locations at Disney Springs are not affected.
  • Shops inside the parks: the outlet says third-party shops in the theme parks have not been affected either, so far.

The card in front is purple and shows Minnie, Mickey, Donald and Goofy riding a purple roller coaster car with yellow trim, with a silver Disney Gift Card panel across the bottom. Behind it sits a red card with a large Mickey Mouse face and its own Disney Gift Card panel.

Still no full list

Neither WDW News Today report includes a full list of the Disney Springs stores that have dropped Disney payment forms, and neither cites an announcement from Disney. The safe move is the same one we suggested in August, with one addition: before you shop at a third-party store at Disney Springs, ask whether it takes gift cards, and do not assume you can charge it to your room.

Did you have a gift card balance earmarked for Sephora or a LEGO set? Where are you spending it now?
