Typhoon Lagoon Reopens January 27, the Same Day Blizzard Beach Closes, So Disney World Swaps Water Parks With No Gap

Disney World's annual water park handoff now has a date. Typhoon Lagoon reopens on January 27, 2027, and on that exact same day Blizzard Beach closes for its own refurbishment. One park in, one park out, with no gap between them on Disney World's calendar.

The Walt Disney World website now lists the change, according to WDW News Today, which reported it Thursday morning along with Blog Mickey. Blog Mickey quoted Disney's wording: "Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park will reopen on January 27, 2027," and "On January 27, 2027, Disney's Blizzard Beach water park will temporarily close for refurbishment." WDWMagic reported the same dates.

Which water park is open on your trip

  • Through January 26, 2027: Blizzard Beach is the only Disney World water park open. Typhoon Lagoon stays closed.
  • From January 27, 2027: Typhoon Lagoon is the only one open. Blizzard Beach is closed for refurbishment.

One caution for January visitors, from WDWMagic: a chilly January day can shorten the open water park's hours or shut it for the day, so look at the hours again shortly before you go.

Typhoon Lagoon's long fall closure

Typhoon Lagoon has been closed since September 9 for seasonal refurbishment, a closure of 140 days, or roughly four and a half months, once reopening day arrives. Blog Mickey notes this is the park's second refurbishment of 2026: it was also closed for about three months earlier this year before reopening on May 12. Disney has not said what work is being done.

Blizzard Beach, meanwhile, reopened on February 15, 2026, per Blog Mickey, and is currently the only Disney World water park operating. Disney has not announced when it will reopen after this next closure.

Both parks for summer?

That is what Blog Mickey and WDW News Today both expect. Both water parks ran at the same time starting May 12 this year, and both outlets expect a repeat next summer. WDW News Today also notes Disney has already confirmed that the free water park perk for guests at eligible Disney hotels returns in summer 2027, though it notes the Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort are newly excluded. Disney has not published a date for running both parks at once, though, so treat summer as the expectation rather than a promise.
