Disney Just Gave Zootopia: Better Zoogether! a Patrick Warburton Pre-Show, Its First Notable Change Since the Show Opened in November
Patrick Warburton has already had one turn in front of the Tree of Life. Around the time Zootopia: Better Zoogether! opened at Disney's Animal Kingdom, he filmed a promo for Zootopia 2 in front of the tree, and his character did not have a role in the show playing inside it.
As of today, he does.
Walt Disney Imagineering has added Mayor Brian Winddancer, the horse mayor Warburton voices in Zootopia 2, to a brand new pre-show sequence in the Tree of Life Theater. Blog Mickey called it the first notable update to the attraction since it opened in November, and Attractions Magazine put the debut at July 29, 2026. Attractions Magazine also noted that updating an attraction within its first year is not uncommon, but called this a noteworthy moment.

What actually changed
The new scene sits at the very front of the show, while guests are still sitting down inside the theater. Winddancer makes a speech to kick off the celebration, and then the show proper takes over. Attractions Magazine reports the addition extends the roughly nine minute runtime by a few seconds.
WDW News Today described the sequence as Winddancer introducing the Zoogether Day celebration in the form of a press conference.
Warburton's voice is already familiar to Disney fans. As Attractions Magazine notes, many associate him with his role at Soarin' at EPCOT and with Kronk in The Emperor's New Groove.
Imagineering showed its work
Per WDW News Today, the video came from Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Parks, and follows the work of getting the new pre-show ready to open. Blog Mickey reports the footage was shot inside the Tree of Life Theater during one of the final rehearsal nights before the change went live.
Show teams from every department were there for the run-through, including audio, lighting, special effects, and the figure animation team responsible for the theater's Audio-Animatronics, all confirming the new sequence worked and the timing lined up. Imagineers said Winddancer's popularity in Zootopia 2 was a major reason he was chosen, and bringing him in meant working with Warburton again and teaming back up with the Zootopia 2 filmmakers and animators at Walt Disney Animation Studios.

What animation and Imagineering said before it opened
Before the show opened, Attractions Magazine spoke with Walt Disney Animation Studios chief creative officer and Zootopia co-director Jared Bush about how animation and Imagineering worked together on it.
"Collaborating with Imagineering has been one of the true joys," Bush said at the time. "To see these ideas that people work on for years come to life, and to be able to experience them, is absolutely spectacular."
He also said something in that same pre-opening conversation that reads a little differently today: "What's unbelievable is the back-and-forth. I think the back-and-forth makes everything better."

The show, for anyone who has not been
Zootopia: Better Zoogether! opened November 7, 2025 in the Tree of Life Theater at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Per Blog Mickey, it replaced It's Tough to be a Bug! in that space.
The roughly nine minute show is framed as a watch party for Zoogether Day. Disney says guests wear special "Carrot Vision" glasses that make characters appear to jump off the screen, among them detectives Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman). Disney also describes Heidi Howler, a slick-talking wolf who hosts the Zoogether Day LIVE! broadcast, as a character original to the show.
Winddancer's addition expands that lineup, and Attractions Magazine says it plans to see the updated show and add more detail once the scene has been running.

The short version: the Tree of Life Theater show at Animal Kingdom picked up a new opening scene and a new Warburton-voiced character less than nine months after it debuted, and Walt Disney Imagineering revealed it with a behind the scenes rehearsal video.
