Disney Rewrote Its Own Blog Posts to Add an Apostrophe to Lakeshore Lodge, Then Filed the Trademark to Match

It took one apostrophe and one letter, and Disney went back through its own already published blog posts to add them.

A trademark application filed Tuesday, August 11 covers Disney's Lakeshore Lodge, the possessive version of the Bay Lake resort that Disney had been calling Disney Lakeshore Lodge since it was announced. WDWMagic and WDW News Today both reported the filing Wednesday morning.

The rewrite came first, though. An archived copy of the Disney Parks Blog hub page taken on the evening of Monday, August 10, before the filing, already carries the possessive in all 16 spots. A capture of the same page from June 29 still had the old name in all 11.

What was actually filed

It is a service mark, and the three categories listed on it are restaurant, resort lodging, and hotel accommodation. It has not been approved. WDWMagic reports the filing is "currently awaiting assignment to an examining attorney," which is the ordinary first step for a new application.

Disney has made no formal announcement about the name change. The filing and the edits are the only public sign of it so far.

Where the old name survives

On the Disney Parks Blog hub page for the resort, titled "Letters from Lakeshore: Updates on Disney World's Newest Resort," every mention of the resort in the body copy now carries the possessive. All 16 of them, including the April and June letters written months before this week.

The old name is still there, though, in the parts of the page that were not rewritten. The page's own meta description, the line that feeds search results and social previews, still reads "leading up to the grand opening of Disney Lakeshore Lodge in summer 2027." The visible sentence it echoes, in the page's own introduction, now says Disney's Lakeshore Lodge.

The concept art tells the same story. Four image files on the page still carry the old name, including Disney-Lakeshore-Lodge-Entry.png and Lakeside-Lagoon-at-Disney-Lakeshore-Lodge.png, and five pieces of alt text on the page still name the resort the old way, one of them on an April aerial rendering whose filename, 2026-DSE-Lakeshore-Lodge-Rendering.png, drops the Disney prefix instead.

How Disney names its resort hotels

Run down Disney's own list of Walt Disney World resort hotels and the possessive is the house rule for the ones Disney runs itself. Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Disney's Contemporary Resort. By that standard Disney Lakeshore Lodge was the outlier, a point WDWMagic made as well, and the name has now been brought into line.

The resort itself

Disney's Lakeshore Lodge is going up on what Disney calls "the south shores of Bay Lake," and is projected to open in summer 2027. Disney says its 967 rooms will range from studios up to suites, and that waterfront Lake Houses in one and two bedroom layouts will debut alongside them.

The outdoor recreation area is called The Wetlands. Its centerpiece will be Lakeshore Lagoon, a zero-entry feature pool with a spiral waterslide that empties into it.

Disney named four new food and drink venues on August 4, three of which it counts as dining: Moonglade, a lakefront table service restaurant; Bay Lake Provisions, an all day quick service marketplace; Paint Out Point Bar & Grill, a pool bar near Lakeshore Lagoon themed to plein-air painting; and Dandelion Terrace, a lounge built for watching Magic Kingdom Park fireworks over the water.

Only one of those, Moonglade, is a table service restaurant.
