Mark your Epic Universe calendar. Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, the headline ride in Dark Universe, is scheduled to close for maintenance for five days in December.

Inside Universal has the dates: "The attraction will be closed for maintenance from December 11, 2026, until December 15, 2026." That runs from Friday, December 11 through Tuesday, December 15, so it takes in a full weekend.

Inside the Magic says Universal posted the closure on its official website, and adds: "No reason has been given for the closure."

What this means for your trip

If your Epic Universe day lands between December 11 and 15, expect Monsters Unchained to be closed. Inside Universal adds a fair warning, "Please keep in mind that these dates can change," so check Universal's closure listings again before you go.

Inside the Magic notes there is still plenty to do in Dark Universe during the December closure, including:

Heading elsewhere in the park? Inside the Magic also lists Fyre Drill, in How to Train Your Dragon, Isle of Berk, as closing November 9 and 10, with a longer closure from January 25 through February 4, 2027.

Meanwhile, next door

The closure lands while construction carries on beside the ride. Universal confirmed this week that an indoor thrill coaster is coming to Dark Universe (our Nov 5 story has the details), and its announcement said "Construction is already underway, with an opening planned in the years ahead."

Inside the Magic also points to aerial photos posted November 6 by the construction tracker bioreconstruct, which describe sand staged from nearby digs and fresh concrete for an exterior wall foundation. Universal has not tied the December maintenance to that project, so treat the two as separate, at least for now.

Are you rearranging an Epic Universe day around this, or is Curse of the Werewolf enough to hold you over?
