Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice is Days From Reopening at SeaWorld Orlando

Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice is days away from reopening at SeaWorld Orlando, and the timeline math now points to this week. The flying-theater attraction went dark Friday April 10 for a conversion the park called "approximately 40 days," which puts the reopening squarely in the mid-to-late May window. The official ride page still reads "Coming this Spring" with no specific opening date, but the ticket-purchase window already extends to June 30, and the park's pipeline of summer programming (Electric Ocean, Discovery Cove Paradise Nights) is leaning on Fire & Ice as a Q2 attendance driver.

The headlines:

  • Original Expedition Odyssey closed Friday April 10, 2026 for the Fire & Ice conversion.
  • SeaWorld described the conversion timeline as "approximately 40 days", which puts the reopen in the mid-to-late May window.
  • The official ride page reads "Coming this Spring" with no firm opening date as of this morning. Height requirement is 39 inches, classified Family Thrill.
  • The same Mack Rides flying-theater system stays (the ride opened as Expedition Odyssey on May 9, 2025, replacing Wild Arctic). What's new: the entry experience, pre-show, film, score, and ride profile.
  • Single-day SeaWorld tickets remain bookable through at least June 30, 2026 according to checks of the park's purchase flow.

What's actually changing

SVP of Project Delivery Justin Newton framed the rebuild scope when the changeover was announced April 15: "We are introducing a brand-new entry experience, a themed pre-show, and an entirely new immersive, story-driven, high-definition attraction designed to deliver a visually compelling, transportive journey and leave them awestruck."

Per Laughing Place's reporting, Newton compared the original Expedition Odyssey to purchasing a Ferrari to drive kids to school, and the Fire & Ice version to taking that Ferrari out on the freeway. The vehicle and ride system are unchanged, but the storytelling around them is being pushed harder.

VP of Attraction Design Kevin Boutte teased the environmental scope of the new film without giving too much away, hinting at "really unique environments" shaped by the forces at play.

What stays the same

  • The Mack Rides flying-theater vehicle and ride system. Same suspended-bench seating, same scale, same approximately 5-minute ride time as Expedition Odyssey.
  • The post-ride Wild Arctic habitat. Guests still exit into the live beluga whale and walrus habitats, a tribute to the long-running Wild Arctic motion simulator that occupied the building from May 24, 1995 until it permanently closed March 16, 2020. The animal habitat space carried forward into Expedition Odyssey when it opened in May 2025.
  • The 39-inch height requirement and Family Thrill classification per SeaWorld's official ride page.

How it fits with the summer pipeline

Fire & Ice is the headline May/June reopening across the SeaWorld portfolio. The pipeline:

  • This week: Fire & Ice expected to reopen (no firm date as of this morning).
  • June 5 to August 8: Discovery Cove's Paradise Nights returns for the first time in eight years, with a four-act dinner show themed around Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. Select Friday and Saturday nights.
  • June 12 to September 7: Electric Ocean returns at SeaWorld Orlando with Hydro Surge cirque at Nautilus Theater, Club SeaGlow DJ party at Bayside Stadium, three nighttime animal presentations (Shamu Celebration: Light Up the Night, Sea Lions Tonite, Dolphins: Touch the Sky), the new drone-into-Ignite handoff, and the Ignite fireworks finale.
  • May 25 (Memorial Day): Standard summer schedule continues; Seven Seas Food Festival wrapped Sunday May 17.

What it means for trip planners

Two practical takeaways:

  • If you have a SeaWorld Orlando trip planned for this week or next: Fire & Ice could reopen any day. Watch the official ride page and SeaWorld's social channels for the opening-date drop. Once the date lands, expect opening-week wait times to spike.
  • If you're booking June or July: Fire & Ice should be fully operational, with the Electric Ocean nighttime stack starting June 12 and Paradise Nights at Discovery Cove starting June 5. A June trip threads all three.

Quick planner notes

  • Watch the official ride page for the opening-date announcement: seaworld.com/orlando/rides/expedition-odyssey-fire-ice/.
  • Height requirement 39 inches, same as the original Expedition Odyssey.
  • Pass Member May benefits are wrapping: $10 SeaWorld Bucks promotion ends May 21. The Pass Member Picnic runs May 30-31.
  • The post-ride beluga whale and walrus habitat is still operating; that part of the building has been unaffected by the conversion.

Fire & Ice Day 2 Reviews at SeaWorld Orlando: Attractions Magazine Calls It Better Than Soarin'

The first long-form review of Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice landed yesterday from Attractions Magazine, and the verdict is sharp: the new SeaWorld Orlando flying-theater retheme "surpasses Disney's new Soarin' Across America" and "balances tranquil footage with fast-paced moments" with "thoughtful and structured" transitions. The film was shot in Iceland and produced by Flyover (the Vancouver-based attraction-design studio whose FlyOver films are directed by former Imagineer Rick Rothschild, who led the creative development of the original Soarin' Over California). Day 2 wait times and ride profile are now public.
