Planning a Tuesday splash at SeaWorld Orlando? Journey to Atlantis is now listed as closed four days a week.

SeaWorld updated the Journey to Atlantis page on the morning of Friday, October 23 (the page's sitemap entry was stamped 9:19am Eastern, its first update since early September). A short notice in red type now sits just under the ride's name:

"Closed Mon-Thurs. Fri-Sat. : 11am to 7pm."

When we checked SeaWorld's site on Wednesday afternoon, the ride's card still showed the old hours. The new line now appears on that card on SeaWorld's main rides page.

What it means for your visit

  • Monday to Thursday: listed as closed.
  • Friday and Saturday: 11am to 7pm.
  • Sunday: not mentioned in the notice either way, so check before you count on it.

The notice does not give a reason or an end date. SeaWorld has not posted an announcement about the change that we could find.

Shorter hours came first

It is not the first time SeaWorld has posted hours for the ride. When we checked SeaWorld's rides page in early September, Journey to Atlantis was the only ride listing with posted hours, and they read "Weekdays 11am to 4pm" and "Weekends 11am to 5pm." Now Monday through Thursday are off the schedule entirely, while closing time has moved later on the two days that remain, to 7pm (from 4pm on Fridays and 5pm on Saturdays). Sunday, which the old weekend hours covered, is no longer listed at all.

Journey to Atlantis is SeaWorld's "flume ride/roller coaster hybrid," which sends boats through the dark passages of a sunken city before a big drop into the water, and SeaWorld rates its splash level as "Soaked." Riders need to be at least 42 inches tall. Guests between 42 and 48 inches need a supervising companion who is at least 14 years old.

Check before you go

SeaWorld changed these hours without an announcement that we could find, so it is worth checking the Journey to Atlantis page or the SeaWorld app on the day of your visit, especially on a Sunday.

Is Journey to Atlantis a must-ride for you, or is it the one you skip to stay dry?
