Legoland Florida Makes a 'Most Overrated' US Attractions List, With the Best Tripadvisor Score of Anything in the Top 10

Legoland Florida is "overrated," at least according to a luggage storage company. It also has a better Tripadvisor score than anything else on the list.

Stasher, which books luggage storage in cities around the world, placed the Winter Haven park at No. 7 in its top 10 of overrated US attractions. Stasher's study page is dated September 15, and WFTV Channel 9 picked it up on September 22.

How Legoland made the list

Stasher compared 665 US attractions, each with at least 200 Tripadvisor reviews. It scored every one on "online popularity," an index out of 100 built from English-language Wikipedia views and TikTok and Instagram post totals for one selected hashtag per attraction on each platform.

To count as overrated, an attraction had to rank in the top 25 percent nationally for online popularity while scoring under 4.0 out of 5 on Tripadvisor. Legoland Florida qualified with an online popularity index of 78.6 and a Tripadvisor rating of 3.9, just a tenth of a point under the cutoff.

That 3.9 is the highest rating on the whole overrated list. The other nine range from 3.4 to 3.8 in Stasher's own table. Stasher ordered the list by the gap between each attraction's popularity score and where its rating (adjusted for review volume) ranked in the national sample, and Legoland's final ranking score of 76.27 was enough for seventh.

The company it keeps

Five of the ten are Six Flags parks. Legoland Florida is the only Legoland on it, and the only Florida attraction.

Orlando's big parks stayed off the list

The same study ranked Walt Disney World first in the whole country for online popularity, at 99.6, with a 4.4 Tripadvisor rating. EPCOT came in eighth nationally.

WFTV reports that Legoland ranked ninth among Florida's 10 most popular attractions online, and that it was the only one of those ten with a Tripadvisor rating below 4. The Florida order, per WFTV: Walt Disney World, EPCOT, Universal Studios Florida, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, SeaWorld Orlando, Everglades National Park, Universal Islands of Adventure, Legoland Florida and Gatorland.

Read the fine print

Stasher spells out the limits of its own measure. Its methodology says online popularity "does not measure attendance, visitor expectations or regret," and that individual review text was not analyzed, so the study cannot say why anyone rated Legoland a 3.9. WFTV adds that the ranking "does not represent an official tourism or industry rating."

Stasher CEO and co-founder Jacob Wedderburn-Day, quoted by WFTV, said a place can get plenty of online attention and still disappoint some visitors. Speaking about theme parks in general, he added: "With a theme park, there are plenty of factors that can shape that, from queues and weather to ticket costs and how much of the park suits the ages in your group."

That last factor may matter most at a park built around younger kids.
