First Concept Art of the Glob Theater Lobby: Eyeball Chandeliers and a Monster Concessions Stand in the Old MuppetVision Space

The chandeliers are looking back at you. Disney has put up the first concept art of the lobby inside the Glob Theater, the Monstropolis venue taking over the old MuppetVision 3D building at Disney's Hollywood Studios, and the light fixtures are ringed with big cartoon eyeballs.

The painting is part of a refresh of the preview center inside Walt Disney Presents, which WDW News Today reported on Friday, September 25. The update also brings new Monstropolis creature sculptures, and it swaps out the Piston Peak National Park display for the costumes and dioramas from the reimagined Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress.

What the lobby art shows

According to WDW News Today, most of the Monstropolis art now on the wall was already shown at D23 last month, but the lobby piece is "revealed for the first time." The painting puts guests in a blue-walled room hung with red drapes and lit by eye-studded chandeliers, with a Monster Concessions counter along the far wall. The theater entrances run down the right-hand wall, with screens above them for a pre-show.

That snack counter may be for show. WDW News Today thinks it likely will not be a working concession stand and will instead display prop monster treats for people to browse in line.

A second new painting shows the theater's entrance and its light-up marquee, which in the art reads "Welcome to Monstropolis" with the tagline "A Scarefree Theatrical Extravaganza." The show itself is called Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike.

Meet the monsterfied wildlife

The display also has four new maquettes of three creatures guests will see around the land: a monster pigeon, a splitting hare and a monster squirrel. They replace maquettes of Mike and Sulley which, WDW News Today notes, were actually from Monsters University.

A sign next to them explains: "For Monstropolis, Walt Disney Imagineering worked closely with Pixar to create a cast of 'monsterfied' creatures that add personality and charm to the city's streets."

There is also a laugh/scream canister on display, and WDW News Today suggests something like it could end up inside the land's door coaster.

The sign that names the whole land

A new sign lays out the land's lineup in one go. Guests can "Catch hilarious entertainment at The Glob Theater, enjoy a memorable meal at Harryhausen's, and browse the latest monster must-haves at the Scareporium." Then comes the headliner: "Then, race through the Monsters, Inc. Door Vault aboard the first suspended coaster ever built for a Disney park."

The sign also places the land "in the era following the discovery of Laugh Power," which WDW News Today reads as confirmation that Monstropolis is set after the events of Monsters, Inc. The outlet says Monstropolis will debut in stages, starting in 2027.

Carousel of Progress moves in

On the other side of the room, the Carousel of Progress has taken the Cars corner. The new display sits next to the live-action Ariel meet-and-greet and, according to WDW News Today, replaced the Cars-themed area that previewed Piston Peak National Park, the Magic Kingdom project that will expand Frontierland.

WDW News Today describes John's costume as a yellow sweater, a multi-colored turtleneck and khaki pants, while Sarah wears a yellow and blue futuristic dress with beige pants. A sign by John's costume says Father's costume for Act I, set in 1969, "draws inspiration from his appearance in the Act IV finale of the 1964-65 New York World's Fair Progressland show."

Two dioramas show scenes from the new show: Sarah sitting in front of a conversation pit and fireplace in the Act IV future, and John and Rover the dog in a kitchen. Another sign teases a brand-new opening scene "inspired by the 1964 television special Disneyland Goes to the World's Fair," in which guests step onto that soundstage with an Audio-Animatronics Walt Disney as he introduces the show.

Some of this will look familiar: Disney had costumes, maquettes and a new poster on display at D23 in August. The difference now is that they are on display in the park.

The reimagined show moves its scenes to 1969, 1985, 1999 and the distant future, with Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston voicing Mother and Father. Disney's attraction page says, "We expect the attraction to reopen late Spring 2027."

Worth a stop?

If you are already at Hollywood Studios, yes. The Glob Theater lobby art is on display there, and the Carousel of Progress costumes are in the same room. Walt Disney Presents is in Animation Courtyard.
