A New Permit Points to Active Work on The Glob Theater in Disney World's Upcoming Monstropolis Land

The slow build of Monstropolis at Disney's Hollywood Studios just left another paper trail. Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new electrical permit tied to The Glob Theater, the show venue taking shape inside the former MuppetVision 3D building, and while it is a routine construction step, it is a fresh sign that interior work on one of the park's biggest expansions is actively moving along.

What the permit says

The filing, submitted in early July, covers electrical work at The Glob Theater and lists Elite A/V Systems as the contractor. The permit description itself is brief, reading simply as electrical work, while the named contractor, Elite A/V Systems, is a firm whose work centers on connectors, pushbuttons, ventilation, and tailored electrical modifications. That is the kind of behind-the-walls work that happens when a show building is being fitted out rather than just framed. It is not a splashy reveal, but permit watchers track exactly these filings to gauge how far along a project really is.

Where The Glob Theater fits

The Glob Theater is going into the building that most recently housed MuppetVision 3D, which closed on June 8, 2025, in the Grand Avenue area, formerly the Muppets Courtyard, now being folded into Monstropolis. Disney confirmed the venue's name, The Glob, back in June 2026 through in-universe backstory materials. It is set to be a theatrical show space, though Disney has not yet announced exactly what the show will be.

The bigger Monstropolis picture

Monstropolis, themed to the world of Monsters, Inc., was announced at the D23 event in 2024, with construction starting in mid-2025. The land is expected to bring a roller coaster inspired by the film's door-vault sequence, The Glob Theater, a Harryhausen's restaurant, and an ice cream truck. Disney has not announced an opening date, and more details are widely expected at the D23 fan event in August 2026.

The bottom line

On its own, one electrical permit does not move an opening date. But taken together with the steady drip of filings at the site, it is a small confirmation that Monstropolis is progressing behind its construction walls, and that The Glob Theater is more than just a name on a map.
