Steel Rises Behind Pirates of the Caribbean for a Magic Kingdom Building Labeled MK Park 3 Support Building in District Records

Something several stories tall is going up behind Pirates of the Caribbean, and Disney has not announced what it is for.

New aerial photos from Bioreconstruct, published Monday morning by Blog Mickey, capture a building several floors high under construction in Magic Kingdom's backstage area. The site is tucked behind Pirates of the Caribbean, beside a parade warehouse on the park's west side past Adventureland. Blog Mickey is upfront that it does not know what the building is for.

WDW News Today ran two of the same Bioreconstruct frames a day earlier, on Sunday, in a wider look at the Piston Peak and Villains Land work. Its write-up calls the project "a new office building under construction near Adventureland" and reports that most of the structural frame is up, along with a concrete core. Neither outlet points to a Disney source for the office description or for what the building will hold.

What the photos show

The steel skeleton is already several floors high, according to Blog Mickey, and work on the top levels is still under way. A tall precast concrete column stands at one edge of the footprint. Blog Mickey reads its shape and placement as a likely elevator shaft.

Blog Mickey describes the site as a narrow backstage corridor. It sits just off the backstage canal on Magic Kingdom's west side, the waterway where the Electrical Water Pageant barges are moored. A green parade warehouse borders it on the other side, and a construction yard piled with ductwork, precast panels and other materials runs south toward the woods.

The name on the paperwork

No Disney announcement covers this building yet. What exists is a label: Blog Mickey reports that the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District lists the site in its records as the "MK Park 3 Support Building."

Park 3, per Blog Mickey, covers Adventureland, Frontierland and the west side of Magic Kingdom. That is the same general area where work on Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land is under way. Blog Mickey notes the new building is not necessarily close to either land, and floats the possibility that part of its job could be supporting them. That is the outlet's speculation, not anything Disney or the district has said.

Who used the site before

Blog Mickey reports the site was previously used by Disney Performing Arts. Whether that use continues once the new building is finished is not yet known.

Where it stands: the photos show the steel and the concrete column, and Blog Mickey reports the district's label and the site's past use by Disney Performing Arts. Blog Mickey says it will keep watching the site, and so will we.
