New Stretch of Floridian Way Opens August 10 at Disney World, Shifting Traffic Near Magic Kingdom and the Grand Floridian
If you are driving to the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian's Island Tower or the Magic Kingdom parking lot, your route is about to change again. On Monday, August 10, the long running World Drive North Phase III project reaches its next big milestone, and it will send guests onto a brand new segment of Floridian Way.
The date came from Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Administrator Stephanie Kopelousos, who announced the shift at a recent CFTOD Board of Supervisors meeting. BlogMickey reported it exclusively, noting it was the only media outlet in attendance at the in person meeting. The roadwork is a district project rather than a Disney one, and we have not seen a separate guest advisory from CFTOD or Disney, so treat August 10 as a reported date rather than an official one until signage goes up.
What actually changes on August 10
The shift moves all guest traffic into the southbound lanes that crews have already finished, along the run between the Magic Kingdom parking lot and the entrance to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Moving traffic onto that side is what lets crews build out the northbound lanes.
Two of the project's three planned roundabouts are now installed along the corridor. The third one sits at the southernmost end of the project, near the Magic Kingdom parking lot, and has not been built yet. It is next up for construction.
Further north, BlogMickey reports that both directions should already be constructed, running from the roundabout at the Grand Floridian up to the project's northern connection point, which the permit graphic marks in teal.

Your resort entrance still works, through a temporary driveway
Crews have built temporary connector driveways so three entrances keep functioning while the roadway around them keeps changing shape:
- The main entrance of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
- The Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort
- The Grand Floridian wedding pavilion
These are stopgaps, not the finished layout. As BlogMickey put it, "Guests headed to any of these three locations should expect the temporary driveways to remain the primary access points for now."
The permit approved for the Grand Floridian entrance work calls for the resort's main entrance to eventually feed directly into one of the project's permanent roundabouts. The wedding pavilion is set to get a new entrance south of its current one.

This is not the finished road
BlogMickey was blunt about that: "We want to stress that the configuration debuting on August 10th is not the final product." More roadway and roundabout work continues after the shift takes effect, and the full buildout is not expected until the project's new completion date in late 2027.
That end date has moved. CFTOD documents revealed earlier this year that World Drive North Phase III had slipped by roughly 15 months, pushing construction completion to December 21, 2027.
Why this matters for your drive
This is the second change to this corridor in under a month, and the two are linked. On July 13, the intersection of Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way closed permanently, rerouting car access to both the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian. BlogMickey describes that closure as preparation for this very lane shift. If you drove it in July and thought you had the new pattern figured out, August 10 asks you to learn it again.
Disney's email to guests ahead of the July 13 closure told Island Tower guests to use Floridian Way and sent main campus Polynesian guests to follow directional signage on North World Drive, so signs are already doing the work along this corridor. Our advice for August 10 is to follow the posted signs rather than a mapping app, and to leave a few extra minutes on arrival day. BlogMickey's own guidance is simpler: it is an active construction zone, and guests should navigate it cautiously until the work is done.
