Construction Walls Close Off the Toon Lagoon Carnival Games and Cut the Direct Path From Marvel Super Hero Island

If you walked from Marvel Super Hero Island into Toon Lagoon on Tuesday, you did not take the usual route. Fresh construction walls have gone up at Universal's Islands of Adventure, and they wrap the entire carnival games area.

WDW News Today published photos of the new walls on Tuesday, September 22, reporting that they "surround the entirety of the carnival games area" and that they block the path between the two lands.

Where the detour goes

Guests are redirected rather than cut off. WDWNT says "there is a temporary detour through the Toon Lagoon amphitheater courtyard available for guests to use." On the ground that means an A-frame sign parked at the foot of a staircase, the pointing cartoon glove paired with a wheelchair symbol.

What Universal has said

Nothing so far. "Universal hasn't shared any details regarding the nature of the work," WDWNT reports. The walls carry Toon Lagoon branded blue and orange signage, reading "Please Pardon Our Dust" and "Pedestrian Walkway." Toon Lagoon has been walled off this way before, around the Toon Extra store in April 2022 and around part of the Popeye statue courtyard during a land-wide refresh in October 2023.

The outlet adds that Toon Lagoon "remains open, but other paths may be rerouted if more construction walls appear." As of Tuesday evening this is a single outlet's report. No Orange County permit tied to the work has surfaced and no second outlet has picked it up, so the scope of the job is genuinely unknown.

Islands of Adventure is already having a year

The land and the park around it are in an unusual amount of flux. Jurassic Park River Adventure is still closed for a major refurbishment, with Inside Universal listing a November 20, 2026 reopening. Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges is set to close January 4, 2027 for what Inside the Magic describes as an annual refurbishment, with the ride due back after February 2, 2027. Across the park, demolition has already started in parts of The Lost Continent, a land Inside the Magic reports is closing permanently.

Why people will read into it

Toon Lagoon is a perennial subject of fan retheme rumors, so any wall that goes up there gets read as an opening move. Worth holding onto the other possibility: when similar walls went up in Toon Lagoon in 2022, WDWNT judged them likely to be screening routine work such as repaving or repainting. Universal has not said which this is, and the canopies are still up.
