Category 10 Construction Walls Now Block CityWalk's Main Walkway to Islands of Adventure, Sending Guests Around the Back

Heading from CityWalk to Universal Islands of Adventure? The main walkway to the park is walled off. The construction walls around Luke Combs' Category 10 have grown until, in the words of WDW News Today, they "completely block the main walkway to the theme park's entrance."

You can still walk to the park. You just go the back way now, through the rear of CityWalk.

The detour, step by step

Here is the route, as WDW News Today describes it:

  • Where it starts: the walls begin right beside the Cinnabon kiosk, so that is where the old route is cut off.
  • Head to the back of CityWalk: a sign sends you down the walkway between the Universal Legacy Store and Bigfire.
  • Turn at Antojitos: when you reach Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food, turn back toward the lagoon.
  • Back down to the water: the path runs down between Bigfire and Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville. Two temporary ramps handle wheelchair and stroller access here, a job the main walkway normally does.
  • Along the walls: outside Margaritaville, the walls leave a narrow path past the construction zone.
  • Where it ends: the walls stop at Lone Palm Airport, just before the bridge to Islands of Adventure.

WDW News Today also marked up a CityWalk map: yellow traces the route guests can walk, and red shows the construction site. On that map, the red block runs along the lagoon edge. The yellow route loops around the back of a building first, then runs between the red block and the buildings to the bridge.

Plan for the detour

WDW News Today does not say how much time the detour adds. Going by its map, the route bends around the back of CityWalk before it reaches the narrow stretch along the walls. If you are pushing a stroller or using a wheelchair, the two temporary ramps are there to keep the route accessible.

What is going up behind the walls

Category 10 is Luke Combs' music, food and drink venue, and it is scheduled to open in late 2027. Orlando will be the third Category 10, after Nashville and Las Vegas. According to WDW News Today, the venue is planned around waterfront views and live music, with food and drinks served across a number of separate entertainment areas.

In September, we looked at the concept art printed on these same walls, where the renderings did not agree on what the building will look like. The walls have now moved out far enough to change how people get to a theme park.

Crews tearing down The Lost Continent at Universal Islands of Adventure have now reached Mythos Restaurant itself. Video posted October 25 and filmed across the lagoon shows a big piece of the themed rock on the back of the restaurant removed, a yellow turbidity barrier in the water at its base, and the guest path behind Mythos completely walled off. Mythos remains open and is still slated to close in 2027.
