Epic Universe's Celestial Goodnight Has Its Fireworks Back, Just in Time for the First Universal Nights

The big finish is back. After weeks of fountains-and-lights-only shows, fireworks returned to Universal Celestial Goodnight at Epic Universe on Thursday night, October 1.

Aerial photographer bioreconstruct, who had flagged the missing fireworks on Bluesky back in early September, posted on X at 8:48 p.m. that night, from a vantage point a few miles away: "Fireworks have returned to the Celestial Goodnight show at Epic Universe." A few minutes earlier, another fan, @TayTakedown, shared a clip and wrote, "After a pretty decent hiatus, it looks like the Epic Universe Celestial Goodnight is back in full effect! I missed this so much." WDW News Today reported the return the next morning, noting that bioreconstruct and several other social media users had confirmed fireworks at the October 1 show.

How long they were gone

When we reported the outage in mid-September, Universal had just confirmed in a reply on X on September 15 that the fireworks portion of the show was "temporarily unavailable" while it worked to resolve "a technical issue," with no return date. The gap was already older than that: as we noted at the time, bioreconstruct wrote on Bluesky on September 1 that the show "has been absent of fireworks for weeks."

Universal has not said what the technical issue was. As of this writing, we have not seen an announcement from Universal about the return either; the confirmation so far comes from guests and observers who watched Thursday's show. One night back is a great sign, but if the fireworks are the main reason you are staying to park close, it is still worth checking with Universal before you plan your evening around them.

Back in time for Universal Nights

The return lands two nights before Universal Nights, the after-hours party at Epic Universe, holds its first event on Saturday, October 3. Universal's July 7 release said the party runs from 9 p.m. to midnight, and that ticket holders can get in from 7 p.m., early enough to see Universal Celestial Goodnight before the party starts. That release said tickets start at $179.99 plus tax per person.

That same release promised the show "culminates with a jaw-dropping fireworks display that provides the perfect ending to an action-packed day at the park." For weeks, it did not. On Thursday, it was back to the full version, with nearly 600 synchronized light fixtures, over 350 fountains and seven million LED lights, plus the part everybody was looking up for.
