Universal Orlando has put numbers on its annual passholder push: 40 percent off select hotel rooms, 30 percent off Express Pass, and $40 off a 1-Day Park-to-Park ticket that passholders can buy for friends and family.

Passholder Appreciation Days runs Saturday, August 15 through Wednesday, September 30. Universal laid out the perk list on Tuesday. One item on it, a magnet given away at UOAP Nights, has not been shown yet.

UOAP Nights is back, and it is already full

UOAP Nights returns August 15 and 16 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Reservations are fully booked. Anyone who did get in gets select attractions and entertainment, special character meet and greets, a DJ dance party, and the magnet giveaway.

Universal has not revealed the magnet art. The teaser on its website is the strikethrough card above, which WDW News Today reads as pointing at Revenge of the Mummy.

The discount list

Most of the discounts run the length of the promotion, though several carry their own conditions:

  • 40 percent off select hotels on Sunday to Thursday stays, including Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, Universal Stella Nova Resort, Universal Terra Luna Resort, and Universal Endless Summer Resort, Dockside Inn and Suites.
  • 30 percent off Express Pass, available only at the front gate ticket windows.
  • $40 off 1-Day Park-to-Park tickets bought for family and friends.
  • 30 percent off Universal's Great Movie Escape.
  • 35 percent off a My Universal Photos Annual Pass Photo Package when purchased in the park, plus buy one character meet and greet photo and get another free at participating park locations.
  • 10 percent off cabana and premium seating rentals at Universal Volcano Bay. 3-Park Power and Seasonal passholders also get Early Park Admission up to 30 minutes before opening on select dates.

There is also a passholder-exclusive Coca-Cola Freestyle souvenir cup for $19.99 while supplies last. Universal says that design will be revealed soon too.

Merchandise and food

Passholders get first crack at the new Illuminated Globe Merchandise Collection at the UOAP Lounge in Toon Lagoon at Islands of Adventure and The Tonight Shop at Universal Studios Florida. Spend $100 or more at select participating merchandise locations and you get a $15 credit toward a future purchase of $50 or more. Seasonal and Power passholders also save 10 percent on merchandise.

The largest percentage in the merchandise list goes to Wizarding World shoppers: 50 percent off personalization on qualifying merchandise, which includes wand engravings and embroidery on robes and scarves.

On the food side, all passholders get 10 percent off when using Mobile Food & Drink Ordering, Seasonal and Power passholders get 10 percent off dining at select restaurants, and there are passholder-exclusive limited-time menu items at select locations in the parks and at CityWalk.

There is a second giveaway too, separate from the UOAP Nights magnet, starting August 15 while supplies last at the UOAP Lounge or The Tonight Shop. Universal has not announced what it is.

Why the timing stands out

This lands five days after Comcast told investors on its second quarter earnings call that attendance across the broader Orlando market began softening in June and that the trend has continued into the third quarter, which we covered on July 23. Universal has not tied the promotion to attendance. Our read: a nearly seven week passholder push with 40 percent hotel rates and a ticket discount aimed squarely at the friends and family a local would bring looks like a response to a soft summer.

The gap in the package

Look at how the perks are worded and the pass structure shows through: the early admission perk at Volcano Bay singles out "3-Park Power" and Seasonal passholders. Universal Orlando now has four gates: Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, and Epic Universe. LaughingPlace, writing up the same announcement, notes that passholders can buy discounted tickets to Epic Universe but that there has still been no way to get annual pass access to it.

So Universal's newest Orlando park is still outside the passholder package, during the promotion named for appreciating passholders. Universal has not said whether that changes, and it is the detail to watch whenever it next updates its pass lineup.
