SeaWorld Is Taking 100 Pass Members Behind the Scenes at Mako on August 16, and There Is No Way to Book Ahead
There is no reservation link for this one. If you want to get behind Mako on August 16, you have to show up, walk to the SkyTower Tour Desk and put your name down before the 50 spots on your preferred tour are gone.
SeaWorld Orlando's August Pass Member News, posted Saturday, includes a behind-the-scenes Mako tour, which SeaWorld lists as the National Roller Coaster Day Tour, marking the coaster's 10th anniversary. Two departures, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., 50 spots each. One wrinkle in SeaWorld's own post: it calls August 16 a Saturday, but August 16, 2026 falls on a Sunday. The fine print gives the date with no day attached, as Aug. 16, 2026. Reservations are made in person, first come first served, and only for pass members who are physically there at sign-up. SeaWorld publishes no advance or online booking channel, so plan on signing up at the desk that day. You can book one tour time, not both.

One caveat worth setting expectations on: SeaWorld describes it only as "an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Mako" and "this unique look behind one of Orlando's most thrilling coasters." SeaWorld's post does not set out an itinerary or name a single stop on the route, so go in curious rather than expecting a specific one.
One more restriction that will catch people out: the fine print says the tour is for present pass members only, with no guests. Anyone in your group who is not an active pass member cannot come along.
Mako at 10, and one superlative that quietly expired
Mako opened on June 10, 2016, so the coaster actually turned 10 back in June. August 16 is National Roller Coaster Day, which commemorates the patent Edwin Prescott received for a looping coaster on August 16, 1898, and SeaWorld is folding the anniversary into that.
The specs still hold up. Mako is a Bolliger & Mabillard hypercoaster: 200 feet tall, a 200 foot drop, 73 mph, 4,760 feet of track, and zero inversions.

Here is the fun bit of housekeeping. At its 2016 debut Mako was billed as Orlando's tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster. Two of those are still true. The third is not: Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure opened at Universal Islands of Adventure in 2019 at 5,053 feet, and Stardust Racers arrived at Universal Epic Universe in 2025 with 5,000 feet per track. SeaWorld's own Mako page now headlines the ride as "Orlando's tallest and fastest roller coaster," though the older billing has not been fully scrubbed: the page's search description still reads "Orlando's tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster," and three of its images still carry all three superlatives in their alt text.

You do not need a tour spot to get something out of the anniversary. From August 16 to 31, pass members can stop by Reef Treasures, show an active annual pass, and pick up a free Mako lanyard and pouch. Limit one per visiting pass member, while supplies last.
What else August brings pass members
- Passport to Screams, August 10 to 30. Scan an annual pass at an in-park kiosk on an August visit to unlock that week's reward: a free Howl-O-Scream snack, churro or popcorn, August 10 to 16, $10 Howl-O-Scream Bucks August 17 to 23, and a free Howl-O-Scream one-time Quick Queue August 24 to 30. The rewards are spent at the event itself, September 11 through October 31, and Howl-O-Scream admission is required and not included.
- VIP Zoo Night, August 20 from 7 to 9 p.m., with Dolphins: Touch the Sky at 7:30, Sea Lions Tonite at 8:00 and Light Up the Night at 8:30.
- Howl-O-Scream Any Night Ticket for $34.99, sold at the Pass Member Lounge August 14 to 30. A separate free one-time Howl-O-Scream Quick Queue voucher is available in the same window, good on any event night from September 11 through October 31. Event admission is required and is not included.
- Free Quick Queue Unlimited after 4 p.m., August 17 to 28. Note it does not cover Penguin Trek or Expedition Odyssey.
- Discounted guest tickets at $44.99 each, up to four, August 1 to 31. The pass member has to be in the park for the guest to get in, and parking is not included.
- Free basting brush at Fins Gifts, August 1 to 2 and August 8 to 9. Separately, one free Red, White & BBQ sample per day on August 15, 16, 22 and 23, with the voucher printed at a self-service kiosk and redeemed at participating festival locations rather than at Fins Gifts.

The blanket eligibility rule: unless a given offer says otherwise, these are for active Bronze, Silver, Gold and Florida Platinum pass members at SeaWorld Orlando. Holders of the Fun Card, Florida Teacher Card, Preschool Card, Friends & Family Pass and Transferable Pass are excluded. VIP Zoo Night is the one that bends, admitting accompanying Preschool Card holders.
