Savi's Workshop Lightsabers Get Spinning, Cutting and Deflection Effects, and 'Cracked' Kyber Crystals Can Flip Your Blade's Color

Savi's lightsabers just learned some new tricks. Disney says every blade built at Savi's Workshop - Handbuilt Lightsabers now comes with a thermal cutting effect, a spinning effect and deflection effects, and special 'cracked' Kyber crystals can unlock a color-change effect with a flick of the wrist.

The Disney Parks Blog announced the changes on Monday, October 5, 2026, for both Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and says that as of that date the new offering "is now available on Planet Batuu." At Disney's Hollywood Studios, Savi's sits in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

The upgrades every builder gets

Disney's post says the enhancements are built into the lightsaber itself, so they apply whichever hilt you choose. In Disney's words, "Each lightsaber chassis and blade, no matter the hilt theme, has been enhanced with brand-new features like a thermal cutting effect, a spinning effect, and deflection effects."

The post adds that "upgraded audio quality and smoother blade activation now creates an even more immersive experience."

'Cracked' Kyber crystals

The flashiest addition depends on which crystal you pick. According to Disney, "When paired with special, 'cracked' Kyber crystals, a color-change effect can additionally be unlocked with a quick flick of the wrist, showcasing the inner battle between the light side and the dark side of the Force."

WDW News Today reports that the flick switches the blade from blue to red, or the other way around. Neither Disney's post nor the Walt Disney World Savi's page says what the cracked crystals cost or how they are offered.

Protection and Defense gets a High Republic refresh

Disney also unveiled a new Protection and Defense hilt series. The parts feature "striking white finishes and rich gold detailing," plus what Disney calls "mysterious ancient Jedi iconography." The design celebrates the High Republic era, which Disney describes as "a time when the Order stood as a symbol of peace and hope across the galaxy."

WDW News Today calls this a V3 update and says the Protection and Defense pieces were last updated in 2023. WDW News Today says it is the second hilt theme to get a V3 update, after Power and Control received new parts in May 2026, which BlogMickey also covered. A 2025 section further down the same Disney Parks Blog post lists four year-round hilt themes: Peace and Justice, Power and Control, Elemental Nature, and Protection and Defense.
