The Turkey Smash Returns to The Polite Pig November 11, and This Year It Runs for Two Months

Here is a date worth circling: the Open Face Turkey Smash is coming back to The Polite Pig, and this year it is sticking around longer than it ever has.

Disney published its 2026 holiday foodie guide on Monday, October 26, and the Disney Springs section lists the sandwich at Town Center with a window attached: "Available Nov. 11 through Jan. 11." That is two months of Thanksgiving on Texas toast, running well past the holiday it is named after.

What Disney actually said

The description in the guide is the one regulars will recognize: "Savory smoked turkey, creamy mashed potatoes, and cornbread stuffing served on Texas toast and drizzled with turkey gravy with a side of cranberry BBQ sauce." The Polite Coquito sits right beneath it on the list, so the pairing is built in.

One detail worth noticing: November 11 is not really a Polite Pig date. It is a Disney Springs date. Frontera Cocina carries the identical "Nov. 11 through Jan. 11" window in the same guide, which points to Disney flipping the whole Town Center holiday menu on a single day rather than letting each kitchen choose its own morning.

So why is everyone saying November 1?

Because of a Facebook post, and a good one. A guest in a 74,000-member Walt Disney World passholder group wrote that his wife stopped at the restaurant to ask when the Turkey Smash was coming back, and that a chef came outside to answer her in person: November 1. The post picked up more than 180 reactions and a long comment thread inside a day, which tells you how many people have this sandwich on a mental calendar.

Treat it as a rumor, warmly. It is secondhand, it is a single source, and it is not something Disney has published. We are not naming the guest or the chef here, because an unconfirmed date is not worth attaching either of their names to. But a chef walking outside to answer a question about their own kitchen is not nothing, and November 1 is an oddly specific thing to invent.

The dates it came back in past years

This is the fun part, although the published record is thinner than you would expect.

Before 2022: it already had history. When Disney Food Blog wrote it up on November 18, 2022, the wording was "The Open Face Turkey Smash Chef Special is back," so it was a returning favorite even then.

2023: the first season with a hard published window. An archived Polite Pig holiday menu lists it as "Open-face Turkey Smash- Avail 11/15-12/11." Four weeks, starting in mid November, gone well before Christmas. Disney Food Blog flagged it that year on November 19 with "QUICK!" in the headline, which was fair warning.

2024 and 2025: an honest gap. We could not find a published date range for either season in Disney's guides, in trade coverage, or in the Internet Archive's captures of the restaurant's menu. The sandwich showed up, people ate it, and nobody seems to have written down when the window opened.

2026: November 11 through January 11.

What the trend line says

Set the two documented seasons side by side and the gap is striking. In 2023 the Turkey Smash arrived on November 15 and lasted 27 days. In 2026 it arrives on November 11 and lasts 62 days. Four days earlier at the front, and more than a month longer at the back.

Which is why the November 1 whisper is worth taking seriously rather than waving off. A kitchen whose holiday special has just been handed a two month run by the people who print the guide has every reason to start smoking turkey the moment the Halloween decorations come down.

There is a tidier explanation too, and it deserves equal billing: "November 1" and "November 11" sound very similar across a counter on a busy Disney Springs evening.

What to watch

If you are at Disney Springs in the first week of November: it costs nothing to ask. The worst case is that you are standing in front of some very good barbecue anyway.

The tell will be the menu board, not the guide. Disney's foodie guide is written weeks ahead and rarely revised once it is out. A chef special that lands early shows up on the restaurant's own board, and in guest photos, long before any official page catches up.

And if November 11 holds: you still have until January 11, which is a full two months. There is no version of this where you miss it, which is a nice thing to be able to say about a seasonal sandwich.
