1. Universal unveils "Blockbuster Summer 2026," its biggest seasonal overlay in years

Universal Orlando dropped its full Blockbuster Summer 2026 lineup on April 30, a movie-themed seasonal event running May 23 through August 10. The headliner is a Spielberg Summer Blockbusters exhibit at Universal Studios Florida featuring props and behind-the-scenes stories from the director's catalog, tied to the upcoming Universal Pictures release "Disclosure Day," in theaters June 12, 2026. The Mega Movie Parade returns May 23 with more than a dozen floats, including ones themed to JAWS, Ghostbusters, Jurassic World, and the Minions. A JAWS-inspired set of experiences at USF layers themed bites, drinks, photo ops, and parks-exclusive merchandise around the film.

2. Passholder Bonus Benefits go live today, May 1, through May 21

Universal's annual three-week passholder appreciation window started today, May 1, and runs through May 21. Active passholders get a free exclusive UOAP magnet at two pickup spots (UOAP Lounge in Toon Lagoon, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily; Tonight Shop in Universal Studios Florida, park open to close), a $5 merchandise credit on a single transaction of $10 or more (pre-tax, post discount) at participating shops, and up to 30 percent off hotel stays for travel through December 23, 2026. The exclusive menu features the $5.25 Viking Bee Sting at Voodoo Doughnut, a $38 Salmon and Saffron Risotto at Lombard's Seafood Grille, and complimentary dessert with an entree at Trattoria del Porto, Amatista Cookhouse, Cosmos Cafe and Market, Omega Cafe and Market, and Islands Dining Room.

3. Hogwarts Castle scrim drops, Hogwarts Always projection show launches May 30

The scrim came down on most of Hogwarts Castle on the weekend of April 26 after more than 20 days behind scaffolding, revealing the refreshed exterior. Universal has not issued a construction timeline, but the work appears cued up for the return of the Hogwarts Always projection show on May 30 as part of Blockbuster Summer. Forbidden Journey stayed open during the work; the projection-mapping show recreates key moments from a school year on the castle facade.

4. VelociCoaster pre-launch evacuation Monday at Islands of Adventure

A train of riders on Jurassic World VelociCoaster was stopped just moments before launch on Monday, April 27, prompting a walk-off evacuation. All guests were reported safe with no injuries, and the coaster was back up and running not long after, with affected riders offered a return ride later the same day. Universal has not commented publicly on the cause; safety systems triggered the immediate hold at the launch position.

5. Lost Continent demolition prep accelerates: walls now fully encircle Poseidon's Fury

Phase one of the Lost Continent demolition is moving fast. Per Orlando ParkStop and Inside Universal updates this week, construction walls have gone up around both the former Sindbad Theater and Poseidon's Fury, now surrounding the Poseidon facade, water has been drained from the Poseidon facade, and Orange County has issued the structural-demolition permits. Poseidon's Fury opened with the park in 1999 and was one of the last original Lost Continent attractions remaining. Mythos restaurant and the talking Mystic Fountain are still open as of this week, with no announced timeline for their closure.
