Universal is selling a $20 light up necklace that signals you do not want to be scared at Halloween Horror Nights 35, just not in the houses
There is a way to walk into Halloween Horror Nights 35 wearing a small red light that asks the monsters to go easy on you. It costs $20, and it is not meant to be switched on inside a haunted house.
The 2026 version of the "Deathly Afraid" necklace is now in stock at Universal Studios Florida, WDW News Today reported on Tuesday evening. The event opens on Friday, August 28.
What it actually does
The necklace lights up, and guests wear it as a signal that they would rather not be scared out in the event's common areas, scare zones included. It is the closest thing to an opt out that the event sells.
The limits are spelled out, and they matter. Wearing one buys no promise of a scare free night, and it is not meant to be switched on once you are inside a haunted house. Inside a house, there is no opt out.

What you get for $20
Everything about it is black and red. The lanyard is printed with small red stars and the Halloween Horror Nights name. An oval charm hangs from it, stamped "Deathly Afraid" in dripping red type, and below that sits a clear disc reading "Never Go Alone 35th Anniversary." Turn it on and the disc glows red.

Where to find one
Two shops at Universal Studios Florida are stocking it: Five & Dime and the HHN Tribute Store.

Not new, but newly useful
This is not a debut. Universal introduced the necklace last year, and this is the 2026 edition, carrying the event's 35th anniversary branding. What makes it worth flagging is the timing. It is on shelves before opening night, so a nervous first timer or a parent bringing a teen can pick one up before the first scare zone rather than after it.
Halloween Horror Nights 35 runs select nights from Friday, August 28 through Sunday, November 1. Universal Studios Florida becomes the Infernal Carnival of Nightmares this year. Jack the Clown, the event's icon, presides over it alongside his rival Dr. Oddfellow, and the lineup includes 10 all new haunted houses.
