SeaWorld’s Nekrosis Scare Zone Opens Howl-O-Scream 2026 on a Seaside Town Frozen at Midnight on January 1, 2000
The world survived Y2K. According to SeaWorld Orlando, this town did not.
With the reveal of a new scare zone called Nekrosis, SeaWorld has put out something bigger than one more name on the lineup. The Nekrosis card opens with "Welcome to Howl-O-Scream 2026," then describes a seaside town that stopped dead at the turn of the millennium. That is event level framing tucked inside a single zone description. The event's own intro copy on the same page says nothing about Y2K, and the individual houses and zones named so far all carry their own separate stories.

The premise, in SeaWorld's own words
From the Nekrosis description on the official Howl-O-Scream attractions page: "Welcome to Howl-O-Scream 2026, where the party ended forever when the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2000. This once-thriving seaside town has been abandoned to decay, frozen in the final moments of the millennium."
The zone's description name checks Howl-O-Flix, described as a video store frozen in time, and closes on two open questions: what happened when the countdown reached zero, and what is still waiting there.
That is a notable way for a scare zone to introduce itself. SeaWorld has run event wide framing before, but through characters: the Sirens headlined from the Orlando event's 2021 debut through 2024, and Havoc took over as the icon in 2025. A dated address to a specific town is a different kind of hook, and putting it at the top of a zone description gives SeaWorld something it could hang the remaining reveals on, if it chooses to.
The Rewind is a bar made of dial-up
Announced alongside Nekrosis is The Rewind, one of the five all new themed bars. SeaWorld's description: "Grab a themed cocktail and relive the '90s through stacks of VHS tapes, ringing landlines, glowing arcade lights and the unmistakable screech of dial-up."

What is named so far, and what is not
SeaWorld's stated scope for 2026 is five haunted houses (four of them all new), six scare zones (four all new plus two returning), five all new themed bars, two roaming hordes and four rides running at night.
Named to date:
- Houses: Everything Must Stay. Three more all new houses and one returning house are listed as coming soon with no descriptions.
- Scare zones: Nekrosis (new), Just One More Chapter (new), Trailer Park Tragedy (returning), Woodrot Hollow (returning). Three more all new zones sit on the attractions page as coming soon placeholders, one more than the event page's count of six would imply.
- Bars: The Rewind. Four more all new bars are listed without descriptions.
- Shows: Throttle and Monster Stomp.
So the majority of the houses are still unnamed, which is a lot of runway left between now and September.

Dates and tickets
Howl-O-Scream runs select nights from September 11 through October 31, 2026. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m.
Pricing on SeaWorld's official page as of July 28, 2026, is discounted under a promotion SeaWorld is calling the Killer Summer Sale. The page says the offer ends Sunday, August 2, so these are not the standing prices:
- Any Night Ticket: $38.99 per person when buying at least four tickets
- Unlimited Scream Pass: $112.99 per person
- Unlimited Scream Pass with blockout dates: $102.99 per person
- Two Park Unlimited Scream Pass, covering SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay: $164.99 per person
- Pass Member single night: $29.99 per person
The Y2K line does not run through everything named so far. Just One More Chapter is a gothic dark romance garden, Everything Must Stay is a suburban open house, the two returning zones are a backwoods trailer park and a swamp, and the Throttle show is built around Havoc, the icon SeaWorld introduced in 2025. If the remaining reveals pull toward the millennium setting, the event would be tied together by a place and a date rather than by an icon character, which would be a first for Howl-O-Scream in Orlando. The unnamed houses will tell us whether the town has a story or just a date.
