Coral Reef Restaurant Closes Tuesday, and Disney's Calendar Now Shows It Back November 4, Still Dinner Only

Disney will tell you Coral Reef Restaurant is expected to reopen "later in 2026." Its own reservation calendar is willing to be more specific.

The EPCOT seafood restaurant closes after service on Monday and goes dark Tuesday, September 8. Booking data that surfaced Saturday morning shows it available again on Wednesday, November 4, which puts the gap at 57 days, or roughly eight weeks.

The exact wording: Disney's restaurant page carries a single line of warning, and it does not name a return date. "Coral Reef Restaurant will be temporarily closed for planned maintenance beginning September 8, 2026, and is expected to reopen later in 2026," it reads.

Disney says maintenance. The outlets do not agree on the word.

This is worth being precise about, because the outlets covering it are not all using the same word. Disney says "planned maintenance." WDW News Today describes the restaurant as "closing soon for an extended refurbishment this month," but that characterization is the outlet's, not Disney's.

WDWMAGIC is the most direct about the gap in the record: "Disney has not shared what work, if any, will be done during the closure." Its report adds that it "remains unclear whether this was a refurbishment, a planned seasonal closure, or something in between."

So no detail about the work itself is on the public record.

Lunch is not coming back, and that is not new

When Coral Reef returns on November 4, it opens at 4:00 p.m. for dinner only. That is easy to misread as a cut attached to this closure. It is not.

The restaurant already runs dinner only. Disney's page lists its operating hours as 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM right now, today, before any closure. Blog Mickey notes the reduced schedule dates back to the start of the year, when Coral Reef "quietly ended lunch service, cutting its daily operating window down to dinner hours only."

The news, then, is that the shortened day survives the closure rather than being reversed by it.

Why the notice and the calendar disagree

A restaurant page that says "later in 2026" while the booking system quietly offers a specific date is a familiar pattern at Walt Disney World. As Blog Mickey puts it, "reservation and hours data often populates before a website notice catches up to match it."

Treat November 4 as the working plan rather than a promise. It is the date the system will currently take a reservation for, and Disney has not announced it.

What you are actually missing for eight weeks

Coral Reef sits in The Seas pavilion, and its whole pitch is the wall. Disney's own description leads with it: "Panoramic windows give every table an insider view into the awesome, underwater world of The Seas with Nemo & Friends."

The Seas holds approximately 2,000 sea creatures across more than 60 aquatic species, per Disney. The menu is billed as Florida Coastal Cuisine, and Disney bands adult dinner entrees at $15 to $34.99.

Disney's notice names only the restaurant. The Seas with Nemo & Friends carries no closure notice of its own.
