Disney's New Grand Floridian Entrance Sends Arriving Guests Down a Road Signed Service & Authorized Vehicles Only

The turn is right there. So is the sign telling you it is not for you.

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa opened its new roadway entrance on Thursday, September 10, the date roadside construction signage had been advertising for more than a week without detailing what was changing. Now that guests have actually driven it, the answer is in. The entrance gate has not moved. Nearly everything about reaching it has, and the turn guests are now told to take still carries a blue sign reading "Service & Authorized Vehicles Only."

The short version: the Grand Floridian's new entrance opened September 10. Enter from the northern roundabout, not the southern one. The exit you want still carries a service vehicle sign. Only one lane of the old Floridian Way is open to cars. The former exit is blocked with concrete barriers, and leaving means going back out through the northern roundabout.

The new way in, turn by turn

WDW News Today drove the route on opening day and mapped it. Guests used to reach the Grand Floridian entrance by way of the southern roundabout. That is finished. The approach now runs through the northern roundabout, taking the east exit.

The only advance warning is a "Grand Floridian Turn Right" sign, and WDW News Today notes it is visible before you actually enter the roundabout. Miss it, and a flashing LED board further around the circle points you back to the correct turn.

Take the turn and you pass the overflow dining and Cast Member parking lot, then arrive at a traffic light at the old Floridian Way. Turn right there, prompted by yet another LED board. From that light, the drive continues southbound on the old Floridian Way until it reaches the resort entrance.

One detail worth holding on to: only the southbound lane of the old Floridian Way is open to cars. The northbound lane is reserved for ferrying guests to and from the overflow dining lot, and the turn for that lot is marked only with an A-frame sign.

Getting out is the longer half

You do not leave through the entrance gate at all, and there is no way out at the southern end of the road.

Exiting means going back through that same traffic light and out through the northern roundabout, where you can pick up Floridian Way north or south. Concrete barriers now seal the old exit at the southern roundabout. For anyone leaving the overflow dining lot, WDW News Today describes the result as essentially a full loop: up from near the southern roundabout, around the northern one, and back down to the wider Walt Disney World road network.

WDW News Today also points out the detail that decides how many people this affects: most guests arrive from the south. They are the ones being routed up and around.

What the permit described, and what opened

There is a paper trail here, even though Disney has not publicly announced the roadway changes. A South Florida Water Management District permit approved in November 2025, from an application first filed in September 2025, called for a roughly 200 foot extension of the resort's main entrance roadway, tying it into a new roundabout under the World Drive North Phase III project.

Per Blog Mickey's reading of that permit, it also called for converting the existing Floridian Way into a one-lane, one-way exit route. What opened Thursday runs its single open car lane the other way, southbound, as the way in, while exiting traffic is pushed up through the roundabout instead.

That is not necessarily a contradiction so much as an unfinished job. Blog Mickey flagged the open question last week: it is unclear whether September 10 marks the debut of the permanent entrance described in the permit, or just another interim step. World Drive North Phase III is not expected to be fully complete until December 2027, which leaves plenty of room for the layout to change again.

This is also the third change to this corridor since mid-July. WDW News Today reported the Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way intersection permanently closed on July 13, the new Floridian Way roundabouts opened to traffic on August 10, and now the entrance itself has moved.

If you are driving in this weekend

Trust the posted signs over your navigation app. The corridor has been redrawn three times in two months, so treat whatever your map shows as out of date until it catches up, and remember that the one instruction that matters most is the counterintuitive one: take the turn that says Service & Authorized Vehicles Only.

Leave a few extra minutes on arrival day, expect the area to still read as a work zone with construction and law enforcement active, and if you are heading for the wedding pavilion, note that the same permit includes a new entrance for it, south of the current one, with no timetable reported.

Walt Disney World has made no public announcement about the change, and Blog Mickey reported that it did not respond to a request for more information.
