Disney World Drops Major Summer 2026 Dates: Buzz Lightyear Returns, Bluey Arrives, and Soarin' Gets a New Film
Disney World officially pulled back the curtain on its biggest summer slate in years, announcing opening dates for a wave of new and refreshed experiences headlining Cool Kids' Summer 2026, running May 26 through September 8. The announcement, made on March 12, covers four parks and includes something for virtually every member of the family — from Toy Story fans to Bluey obsessives to classic Disney lovers who've been waiting years for a certain beloved ride to return.
Here's everything coming, broken down by what you need to know and when.
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin Gets a Laser-Sharp Upgrade — April 8

The first major change arrives ahead of summer: Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin reopens at Magic Kingdom on April 8, 2026, with a substantial suite of upgrades that go well beyond a fresh coat of paint.
Guests boarding the recharged Star Cruisers will immediately notice the new ride vehicles, updated with colors inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command, and equipped with always-on laser blasters that replace the old single-shot models. Each cruiser gets two blasters in different colors, with enhanced lighting, sound, and vibration feedback that actually confirms when you land a hit.
Speaking of hits — the static Z targets throughout the ride have been swapped for reactive targets that light up and respond when struck. No more wondering whether you actually tagged that robot. And for those who live for bragging rights, on-ride Disney PhotoPass photos will now display your final score and rank, making that post-ride screenshot significantly more shareable.
The biggest new character addition is Buddy, a new Star Command support bot who greets guests at the start of the mission and guides them through a target-practice warm-up. Buddy was created collaboratively by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios — a nice signal that this isn't just a maintenance upgrade but a genuine creative refresh of one of Magic Kingdom's most beloved attractions.
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin has been a Magic Kingdom staple since 1998, and the ride's bones — interactive gameplay, competitive scoring, those iconic Star Command sets — remain intact. The enhancements sharpen what was already a fan favorite.
May 26: Disney's Biggest Single Day in Years

If you're planning a Disney World trip this summer, put a circle around May 26. Disney is treating it as the de facto opening of the summer season, with four major new and returning experiences launching simultaneously across the resort.
Bluey's Wild World — Animal Kingdom (May 26)
The one everyone's been waiting for: Bluey's Wild World opens May 26 at Conservation Station inside Rafiki's Planet Watch at Disney's Animal Kingdom — and it sounds like far more than a standard meet-and-greet.
Guests will take the Wildlife Express Train from Harambe Station to reach the experience, which brings games directly from episodes of the beloved Australian series to life with an animal twist. The highlight is Jumping Junction, where families can learn about animals native to Australia while playing. Of course, Bluey and Bingo will both be available for photos and dancing.
Notably, Disney has confirmed that Bluey's Wild World will continue beyond the end of Cool Kids' Summer — so this isn't a limited-time pop-up. It appears to be a permanent addition to Rafiki's Planet Watch, a corner of Animal Kingdom that's been underutilized for years. Using it to house one of the most popular children's characters on the planet is a smart move.
Soarin' Across America — EPCOT (May 26)
In a nod to the ongoing Disney Celebrates America 250th anniversary programming, Soarin' Around the World gives way to a brand-new film: Soarin' Across America, launching May 26 at EPCOT.
The new film replaces the current global tour with a tour of the United States — sweeping across natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, iconic cityscapes, and other classic American landmarks. It comes paired with a new orchestration of the classic Soarin' musical theme, which should be welcome news to anyone who finds that piece of music permanently lodged in their brain.
Soarin' Across America is framed as part of Disney's broader America 250th anniversary celebrations, which have already brought updates to attractions and programming across the resort. The original Soarin' Over California film, beloved by purists, remains available at Disney California Adventure — so Orlando guests are getting a genuinely new experience rather than a hand-me-down.
Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! — Hollywood Studios (May 26)
Families with young Disney Jr. fans get a new live stage show at Hollywood Studios with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, also opening May 26. Inspired by Disney Jr.'s global hit Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+, the show invites guests to a party at the Clubhouse that quickly turns into a chase across the park when Goofy, Daisy, and Pluto fail to show up.
The production features original songs, interactive dance moments, and direct audience participation, with multiple performances throughout the day. Mickey and Minnie lead the adventure with their signature energy — expect this one to be a hit with the toddler-and-under crowd.
The Walt Disney Studios Outdoor Courtyard — Hollywood Studios (May 26)
Also opening May 26 at Hollywood Studios is a refreshed outdoor Walt Disney Studios courtyard, bringing a new gathering space to the park's existing studio lot area.
The Full Cool Kids' Summer Picture
Taken together, this is one of Disney World's more substantial summer announcements in recent memory. The Buzz upgrade alone would make news on its own — pairing it with Bluey's debut, a new Soarin' film, and a new live show in a single announcement is a clear signal that Disney is leaning into family experiences heading into the traditionally competitive summer travel season.
Cool Kids' Summer runs May 26 through September 8, 2026. Disney has also hinted at summer savings offers for the season, so keep an eye on official Disney World channels for discount packages as we get closer to the launch date.
For our Orlando readers: the April 8 Buzz Lightyear reopening and the May 26 cluster of openings give you two very good reasons to get a park day on the calendar in the next few months.
